The Combination of a cold Green Tea steep and a rich malt bakcbone creates a unique umami complexity in our February Brewhouse Rarities release. Rich dark chocolate and herbal accents greet the nose, giving way to a bittersweet chocolate base with strong roast earthiness and savory green tea flavors.

UPDATED: APR 25, 2014 Draft at AKA Fricos in Frederick, MD. Served 12oz in a plastic cup, rich black color with tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, light coffee, green tea and some dark fruit. Taste for me brings out more chocolate and coffee but the green tea shows up as it warms. Thick, rich, low carbonation, creamy, oily and smooth. Green tea is sort of weak and maybe thatís the plan, have it add to existing IRS flavors rather then compete. Interesting and good.

Aroma: The nose is dry roasted malts, some dark chocolate, earth, and some herbal notes
Appearance: It pours a brown-black color with a medium brown head and frothy lace
Flavor: The flavor is mostly roasted and un-sweet chocolate, and a bit of roasty, earthy finish
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, with an average carbonation, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a decent beer. It has some nice roasted components, and thereís a bit of an herbalness, but if you hadnít told me there was green tea in here, I wouldnít have know.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, light coffee and chocolate, a little green tea, some light dough, and light bitterness. Flavor a great blend of everything with the tea adding a nice component to a solid imperial stout. Smooth texture. A good beer.

On tap at HOTB. Pours a dark brown black with a rich tan head. Aromas of honey and some tea. Taste similar with more tea flavor and a roasty finish. You need to like green tea for this one.

Sample at SBWF 2013. Black with a small tan head. Rather soft aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and light herbs. Similar taste with notes of tea in the finish. Medium body and fairly easy to drink. An interesting beer although not an excellent one.

Euston Tap. Keg. Opaque dark brown - black beer. Good tan head. Palate is soft and smooth and semi dry. Well there is no mistaking the green tea here, itís big and bold and errr pretty green tea like! Underneath and quite partitioned off is smooth and semi dry dark malt that is also a little creamy. Finishes smooth and dry. Hmmm - a tough one this! I liked the bigness and the boldness and the invention. Was less fond of the way the green tea and the malt sat apart and never came together as a cohesive whole.

Sweet malt, cherries, prunes and brown sugar. These characters largely overwhelm the tea. Good beer though.

Decent beer. Odd combination. Aroma was pretty good. There was a distinct tea aroma with a slight grassiness and lots of roasted malt. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a one finger tan head. Taste was, again, odd but not bad. A little thin. Roasted malt, dark chocolate and bitter hops start it out, then the chocolate turns bitter and the tea flavor comes out. Dries out the mouth like green tea does and tastes like someone put some Lipton Green Tea into a mid grade imperial stout. Very dry finish. Wouldnít buy again, but give a thumbs up to the balls required to release this. It works.

Bottle. Pours black with dark brown head. Nose and taste of earth, green tea, roasted chocolate malt, cocoa beans, coffee, baked chocolate bread and herbs. The tea on the nose is a little odd, but it blends very seamlessly into the stout in the taste. Interesting and well put together experiment. Full body.

Split a 750ml bottle three-ways. Poured a very rich black color with a medium sized dark tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate notes. I wasnít sold on the green tea at first, but I think this works pretty well in the beer. Itís a bit dark, so the chocolate and roasted malt notes kind of overpower the green tea notes, but a lighter beer might have been "too" green tea. Flavor strikes a pretty good balance between roasted malted notes and the tea. Glad that I was able to split it.
