Commercial Description:
Heller Hound Bock is a crisp and malty Maibock, brewed with a special combination of Vienna and Munich malts. With a rich mouth feel and a subtle hop finish this is the perfect brew for toasting the sun's return.

The beer pours a brilliantly clear, deep, orangey gold with a thick, nearly-white head that fades quickly to just a sliver of bubbles - the lace on the glass is slim, but not completely absent. The aroma is loaded with the smell of sweet malts and with hints of dried fruit (particularly white raisins). The aroma has hints of spice and lager yeast, too. The flavor starts a little grassy, grainy, and malty-sweet. Some spicy hops can be detected through the fizzy tickle of carbon dioxide. The middle of the tongue tastes sweet malts with very subtle hints of raisin nicely balanced by a faint flavor of noble hops. The finish is full-bodied and malty with a gentle undercurrent of European hops and yeast. The after-taste is malty. The mouthfeel is a bit thick and only slightly lightened by the presence of carbon dioxide gas. The middle and back of the tongue remain tickled by the carbonation well after the beer is swallowed and complements the after-taste interestingly. Overall, very drinkable but not quite amazing. A solid, tasty beer but not quite a stellar one.

Bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a clear golden-orange with an average size white head. Slightly odd aroma of sweet malt, bready yeast, light (saaz?) hops and grain -- smells Pilsner-ish. Flavour is sweet but not very flavourful, with sweet malt, bready yeast, grain, light hops and a light bitter finish. Blah. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel. Disappointing, I like this brewery but this didn’t do much for me.

Bottle: Pours a perfectly clear golden with a thin tan head. Aroma is simple sweet papery malts with some doughy hints and a flowery component. Fairly nice mouth feel with decent carbonation. Light vegetable notes in the flavor: squash and sweet potatoes. Has some bisquity malt hints, sweeter suggestions of butterscotch, dough, and has a light flowery aspect in the strange bitter finish. Simple, and a bit strange overall. Just something not right.

Bottle. Pours clear golden with a large fluffy white head. A light hops aroma, with some bready malt. Tastes lightly of sweet malt, a little honey-like, with some apple and a dry finish. Well made, if not too exciting.

Mild flavor, but not unflavorful. Light malt taste, golden color is fairly expected, but the sweetness and light apple taste is nice. Alcohol is well managed: contributing to the taste but not overpowering.

12 oz bottle from cbkschubert . Lightly hazy gold with a white head. Honeylike malt nose, some very light grass. Sweet malt and honey flavors, not quite buttery. Somewhat dry salty finish, mild sweet malt flavors. OK.

Bottle. Poured golden-ish, pretty nice head. Aroma of hops, but not strong. Kind of malty flavor, starting mildly sweet and ending somewhat bitter, though not in a bad way. Smooth and easy to drink.
