2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jigglyjock (160) - Seattle, USA - MAY 17, 2006
I have never drank a bock with such a light color (pale golden apperance). Aroma of caramel malts and a slight hoppiness accompanied by hint of spicy alcohol. Descent lacing and head formation. Flavor is medium with a concentration of caramel malt and a slight hop bitterness finish. Mouth feel is silky and mediumly carbonated. Not what I expected from a bock but maybe I just haven’t tasted enough of this style to be a judge.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 nike (504) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 2, 2011
Sampled at House of 1000 Beers. I won’t spend a penny on this brewery again. Typical Flying Dog beer….weak, meek, uneventful. Single dimensional.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 yobdoog (1884) - Woodridge NY, New York, USA - DEC 28, 2009
Aroma is balanced, some light bitterness and some sweetness and grain. Flavor is light and crisp with some hops and caramel malts with that hint of pils type flavor.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 williamherbert (1065) - Syracuse, New York, USA - OCT 17, 2009
Appearance is a hazy light orange. Clear and with some carbonation. Some good lace.
Toasted malt aroma with a darkly sweet undercurrent, like a mild barleywine. Full-bodied and nice.
Has an excellent sweet flavor, like a sour berry. Strong and nice. Mild barleywine-ish flavor and quite a good one. Sweet malt. Honey and red wine too. Also a blast of heavy alcohol.
Feels thick and a tad syrupy. Substantial, but definitely not chunky or overwhelming. It’s really nice and strong. Sweet and bitter and everything else.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hawkshadow (105) - Rural Retreat, Virginia, USA - FEB 28, 2009
A bock and a half! I do not know what you people are comparing this with? Want some powerful flavor? Look no more, looking to compare this with a pie in the sky "super beer"? Get a counselor, really get a life.
I have been around bock beers for over 40 years, accept them for the seasonal beers they are.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 CelticBrew (744) - The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA - FEB 8, 2009
Pours a deep golden and has a large head that goes away quickly but leaves lots of lace behind. The flavour was of malted barley with a light toasted graininess, a bit sugary, dry yeasty, a fleeting spicy hoppiness, and a banana fruity and dry malty finish. Decent, yet drinkable, beer. Would be exceptional on warmer days.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 elihapa (1385) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - JAN 23, 2009
Bottle. Pours gold-orange with a medium sized head. Aroma of yeast, apricot, and lemon-sugar water. Flavor is mildly malty, with a citrus finish. I detected a little funk in the finish that isn’t supposed to be there. This brew reminded me of an inferior version of Stone’s Vertical Epic 8/8/8. This lacks character.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Butters (3014) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - DEC 10, 2008
Finally! my search for this brew is over. Old bottle, at least 2 years, found in the back bin at woodys. Pours a clear light gold with brilliant white thin head. Sweet vanilla and honey nose, not unlike the strong euro lagers ive had recently. Extremely sweet maltiness with the faintest bit of hop bittering in the finish. Nice creamy body with moderate carbonation. And as with all FD beers, you gotta love the label art.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 pootzboy (1310) - Hawgville, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 20, 2008
12oz. bottle.
Poured a light amber color with a nice lacing cap.
Aromas of cooked cereals with a little toasted toffee and some grassiness.
Chewy malts in the front like a Marzen but the balancing hopping is woody-earthy like spalters and tattnangers...slick viscous mouth feel...finish is wet and warming with some sweetness and a strange taste like custard.
Not my favorite offering from this brewer.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - OCT 9, 2008
Bottle. Pours a amber body with a light head. Lightly hopped with floral spices, grass and some malt body. Pretty simple.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 gringo332 (403) - Richardson, Texas, USA - MAY 2, 2008
It gets props because it is cheap compared to similar tasting beers. I was impressed ,after reading the reviews on here i wasn’t expecting much . It is sweet and tastes great. Reminds me of Anchor’s Old Fog Horn.
