3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Powerful, not to be messed with with, and very good. Coppery orange, no head. Thick and oily. Massive fruity nose. Flavours of marmalade, caramel malt and liquorice. Good barley wine - just the one though thanks.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
0.355l bottle. Very dark orangish ruby body, off-white head. The aroma reminds me of a very strong doppelbock. Strong roasted malt and dark fruit character escorted by some caramel and even some chocolate. The high alcohol content is quite obvious, but not in a disturbing way. The taste is pretty much what the aroma suggests: roasted malts, toast, dark fruits and chocolate with noticable booze. Medium-full body with quite lively carbonation. Very nice beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. Beautiful deep red colour, low off-white head. Moderate aroma with notes of dark dried fruits, hints of oak, dust and alcohol. The body is somewhat lighter than expected, which makes the beer quite drinkable. Medium sweet, nicely balanced with the hops.

"a little harsh from the alcohol (which is not hidden particularly well)...otherwise a pretty solid interpretation of the english style, but there are so many better examples, i won’t be back for this one either."

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2014 355ml bottle poured into a chalice.
Very fair Barley Wine. And I have to admit: I love Barley Wine beers! They are so "intense" beers, in many aspects.
A: Beautiful art work (Flying Dog beers are special in these regards). Beautiful cloudy amber color with a very thin head
S: Pure pleasure. Sweet. malty and fruits (grapes mainly). Perfume hops. Alcohol in the end (10.5% ABV is usually impossible to be imperceptive)
T: Caramel malt (fresh malts!). Hoppy as a good American Barley Wine should be. Molasses with some cask notes in the end
M: Liquorous medium to heavy body. Medium to low carbonation. Bitter start with good bitterness retention
D: The first time I’ve had this beer, it was in the Delirium Café (in Belgium) and I’ve underestimated it’s drinkability. As a matter of fact, today, in the comfort of home, I feel like I could easily drink more 2 bottles before falling down... :)

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Colour: coffee-like brown with a thin beige head.
Nose: loads of fruits (plums, apricot). Notes of roasted malts, raisins and oak. Wheat toast and yeast.
Flavours: slightly smoky, forest fruits return. Vanilla, licorice, chocolade, candy sugar. Hints of alcoholic content.
Finish: long and lingering. More alcoholic, but nicely balanced.
Verdict: very nice barley wine. Really balanced.
