3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a bottle at least 5 years old.
Poured into a Duvel glass...0,25l.
Pours a rich, muddy brown with moderate head and lace.
Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, straw hops, and slight wet cardboard.
Moderate carbonation and significant mouthfeel.
Flavors of caramel malts, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, molasses, slight dark cherry. Given the age of this itís held up beautifully, with modest oxidation. Iím rating it on itís ability to age and recent tastings of fresh batches.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
First barleywine Iíve had in awhile. Caramel and toffee everywhere. The maltiness is all over this beer. The booziness is apparent at all times as well. I normally prefer some more hop flavor to my barleywines, but this one is smooth and well balanced with the sweeter malts it carries. Not very roasty at all. I like it, but partly because I also really like barleywines

12 oz bottle from union beer house in Lebanon. Pours a deep reddish purple with minimal head. Heavy. Aroma of grape and cocoa. The taste is complex. Malty fruity caramel chocolate vanilla. All mixed in. Then the sweet fades leaving a good blend of alcohol heat and hop bitterness.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2012 vintage. Pours very hazy dark reddish brown color with a small cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of caramel, molasses, toffee, toast, raisin, prune, biscuit, light chocolate, light roast, floral, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt and fruity notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, raisin, prune, chocolate, light roast, floral, light pepper, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, raisin, prune, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity and balance of dark malt and fruity notes; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent barleywine! Great complexity and balance of dark malt and fruity flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
