A- Pours a murky brownish hue with a huge, chunky head.
S- Plum, raisin, fig
T- Lots of dark fruit, fig, brown sugar, a tad cloying
M- Thick with medium-low carbonation.
D- Nice little english barleywine. Nothing too special but a solid barleywine that’s great on a cold night.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2014 33cl bottle sampled in a snifter. Pours a dark brown brew with a small light beige head with low retention and nearly no lacing. Aroma honey, bread, alcohol and lots of licorice. Taste of caramel, licorice, dried fruit. I really like the subtly sour though against all the sweetness. Very well balanced brew! Mouthfeel is warm, full and slighly creamy. Instant favorite and highly recommended. Get?s better while the temperature rises.

Great deep and very rich barley wine taste. The first zip was a feast I didn’t expect the intense taste.

Dark amber/brown colour with small and rapidly dissappearing head. Feint aroma of malts and some fruits. Taste is heavily sweet, full of malts with minimal bitterness and warming alcohol on the finish. Lo carbonation. Full body. Decent barley wine, not as good as Anchor’s.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
[Bottle / 2008 / 4 years old] Deep, dark brown & quite opaque. The light-tan colored head is gone within seconds with no retention. Big nose of grapes, figs, booze, licorice, & a sticky caramel backbone. Taste is similar; lots of alcohol warmth with tons of raisins, figs, anise, licorice, plums, toffee... Lots going on, but not very well put together. A little too sweet & a little too hot all at once with no balance happening. It’s not bad, but it’ll take you a while to finish the 7 oz bottle.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft (2014) at Flying Dog Brewery poured into a goblet. Pours an amber/caramel color with off-white head. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, spices. Tastes of caramel, brown sugar, resin, light citrus, light booze, sweet fruit. Medium body with a sticky and dry finish. Also tried the 2013 vintage on draft, couldn’t tell a huge difference but maybe a bit less sweet with a year on it.
