Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

When I smelled this, I was concerned that it was too hoppy. I was wrong to think this, because the flavor is awesome! Just the right amount of hops. The aroma IS a bit too cloyingly alcohol, though. This has a dark brown/black appearence, The thick thick head disperses quickly, but it then settles into a nice medium. I love this, because it has a full body, but then what should you expect from a barley wine? The flavor is great! I detect some citrus, plums and alcohol. When I go to the liquor store, I’ll look for more from Flying Dog!

Bottle pours dark copper with little to no head. Aroma is very mild with hints of raisin and alcohol. First taste is sweet fruit then alcohol and hops take over. Finish is dry with some hops burn but alcohol is definately present. Just not my style.

Burgundy brown, rich tan head. This beer is opaque, and a touch hazy in its ethereal darkness. Nose of cooking caramel and hop reduction creating a nose sauce which sets my mouth to watering. Wow, this is highly drinkable. Balanced for a barley wine, it is big and bold yet subtly fruity and easy at the same time. Melon, apple and dark fruit notes about, all wrapped in a molasses, hops blanket of alcohol warmth. Great barley wine.

Pours dark brown with a tiny tan head (high alchohol content). Very weak malty aroma of caramel and raisin. Flavor is better - nice balance of sweet malt with bitter hops, with notes of coffee, molasses, figs, and almonds. Lacks complexity of the Belgian barley wines however, and it is fairly thin on the palate.

7oz bottle, dark amber with a thin off-white head. Sweet, fruity with a mild hop taste. A decent barley wine.

A dark amber coloured beer with a thin, off-white head, that mostly disappeared. The aroma is fruity, dark dried fuity, malty - like bread, with hint of cascade hop’s citrus aromas and dark sugar. The taste is very sweet. The texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

A very nice barley wine on tap. dark mahogony brown. nice frothy tan head. You can taste the alcohol a little... but what do you expect from a barley wine. Full of flavor, but well balanced. Sweet smooth, a little hops for balance, and notes of roasted coffee.
