COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

pours a dark amber color with an off white head. aroma has hops, some malt and dark fruit in it. Flavor is bitter at first but finishes very sweet. The aftertaste is a little too long and tends to be a little to fruity. A good barely wine with some interesting taste notes that are not for everybody.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2006 Pours a cloudy brown reminiscent of raisins. No head at all with a sweet malty aroma when swirled. Medium-light body. Initial sweetness gives way to a soft hoppiness then alcohol in the finish. There is also a tanginess detectable on the sides of the tongue at the back that seemed to hit right after the swallow. A good beer!

Horn dog pours a nice dark golden brown with a small fading head and that’s a-ok! Nose is of caramel, slight chocolate, and a faint citrus. flavor is very smooth, and it seems as though the hops really want to come thru. Think toasted caramel, light nut, married with a hint of dark chocolate. Nice and full bodied with a long finish. Great now & i can only imagine better with age!

Pours out a dark reddish brown with a very light brown small head. Not much of a smell to it. Taste is pretty complex, bitter and malty at the same time, tastes a bit chocolatey going down, and leaves a lingering slight licorice flavor in your mouth. That all being said, it still wasn’t anything too special, and I don’t think I’ll be purchasing it again.

Pours a brownish color with a small off white head. Aroma is of sweet cherry.. Taste is of fresh cherries, roasty and some smokiness. Finish is a bit on the thin side with some stickiness on the palate.

Bottle. Pours a muddled, light brown body with a little off-white head. Smells of dark sugars and tart fruits. A flavor of sweet malts with little hop profile, but the alcohol is very present. Thick, yet smooth texture. Not my favorite in the Canis Major series and certainly not the best barley wine.

The colour is cloudy brown with few foam. The aroma is fresh and quite fruity, floral. It has a long, pleasant, finishing bitterness.

I am not a Barley Wine drinker and that may be why I am missing it here with this fine brewer’s offering. Strong as heck (a little to strong for any food at the Blake Street) but I will try it alone again.

Undrinkable. I’m supposed to stretch this out to 75 characters, but there’s not much else I can say beyond "bad." Nasty, thick, alcholically too hot, acidic.

Bottle @ home. Pours in dark brown with some red around the edges. Thick head. Strong aroma of caramel, slightly sweet, some alcohol too. The flavor is caramel some hop bitterness, well balanced and moderate. The mouthfeel is medium full with some pronounced warming from the ABV. Good balance creates a nice beer, not as exciting as some but still quality.
