3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2005 bottle. Pours thick and gritty with syrupy presence that is a think and amber brown colored. Aroma alittle strong with hints of malty oats and squash. Taste has hints of black licorice and caramel molasses. Looking at the wine through the light I can see large particles in suspension and it just makes this brew so much more appealing. The flavor is very above average and am pleasantly surprised with this brewery. DFefinitely gonna try a few more from here.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Impressive!! This is BY FAR the best beer that I have tried out of Flying Dog. Has a very sweet taste with a light amount of carbonation. Swirls of candy-like aroma fill the air as one consumes this. Great to have while one is relaxing and winding down from a hard day. This is on my next shopping list.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Please note that this is my first barlywine I have ever had.
Poured from a 12 oz bottle, vintage 2008, into a Sam Adams Sensory glass. Pours an orange/amber brown with a decent layer of head. Very nice lacing.
Smell is of a dominate licorice and alcohol. Very malty with caramel flavors. The alcohol is present in this beast. The hop and malt balance seems to be pretty good hear. Also, a big carmel flavor.
The drinkability of this brew is alright. I have a feeling I couldn’t handle more than one of these in a single session, because of the high alcohol content. As for it being my first barlywine, it was a fun beer to experience, reminded me slightly of a porter, but I will be only drinking these on occasion.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear dark copper/amber with a thin tight off-white head. Bourbon, licorice, toffee, and malt aroma. Taste is strong dark fruit, toffee, sweet malt, and light hops. This has a smooth and creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation and light hop bitterness. There is a low alcohol warmth on the finish. A good take on an English-style Barleywine.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle pours an amber brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is malty, caramel, dates, floral, with a hint of alcohol. Taste is fairly complex, malt again is prevalent initially with caramel, chocolate, port, with a slightly floral bitter finish. A slight hint of alcohol is present. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Doesen’t push the limits of this style but it is an enjoyable barley wine.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Little to no head on top of an opaque orangy brown pour...butterscotch aroma with some crisp fruity notes.
it was bitter and astringint. It got syrupy sweet as it warmed. There is a lot to it, but just a little too much. There is not much tantellizing subtlety to this one.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A dark amber coloured beer with a thin, off-white head, that mostly disappeared. The aroma is fruity, dark dried fuity, malty - like bread, with hint of cascade hop’s citrus aromas and dark sugar. The taste is very sweet. The texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

pours very dark brown, mahogany color. I got no head outta this one, so no real lacing to speak of either. BIG malty taste with this one, a little bit sweet, not sure if i could drink more than 2 or 3 for that reason. Has just enough hops to balance out the malt just a bit, but is not bitter whatsoever. more i drink it the sweeter it seems to get. not sickening sweet just yet, but im thinkin maybe i could now only drink one of these bad boys at a time. Alcohol is also hidden very well in this one.
