3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Taste improves as it warms, like you would expect. Itís not great, but its not too bad either. Fairly sweet, and smells like it too. I didnt really get any chocolate or cherry flavors, just an overpowering sweetness. Decent brew, but I probably wouldnít buy it again, since it was relatively expensive for a four pack. Worth a try though.

Deep deep red color with almost no head. Smells and tastes like plums and currents. Warms you up as you drink it and the booze certainly isnít going to sneak up on you. Solid overall barley wine.

This beer and I have a history. Almost ruined me at a friendís wedding a few years ago when I failed to read the ABV before drinking a few. I raved about the taste then and I still do now. For me itís like a port. Very sweet, with caramel and biscuit from the malt, with a little carbonation and a big wine warmth. One for a cold winterís night!

2009 bottle shared thanks to Paul! Pours a translucent golden brown with thin ring of tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma is faint, caramel sweetness is about all I get. Taste is caramel up front, grainy biscuit middle, sweet ending. Not hot at all, no real booziness, solid.

Pours a red orange clear beer with a good creamy white head. Smells fruity, sweet and malts. Tastes fruity, bit vanilla, spicey and some alcohol. Long bitter aftertaste. Thick body, low carbo and a sticky texture. Strange beer. I do like the taste but not the aftertaste.

Pours a dark brown with a thin off-white head. Complex aroma of plums, caramel toffee, chocolate, ripe/dried fruits, some hops. Very interesting. Fruity-dry finish. An impressive brew.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Deep cherrywood colour, patchy head; aroma of candy fruits; tastes of sweet malts, dried fruit, especially cherries on the finish; short finish, some bitterness; itís ok, but it felt a little unbalanced, lacking something; I love barley wines but I failed to love this.
