COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Nice overall but a bit too sweet and raiseny for my tastes. The alcohol is quite disguised.

doesn’t really taste like a barley wine. it’s aromatic and flavorful, but not your typical barley wine.

Pours deep dark caramel into the glass with a small head. Appears a but hazy with sediment more apparent if not poured slowly. Aroma is complex, bursting with malty, port wine, rum/coke, and sweet chewing tobacco aromas (Red Man I think). Flavor follows closely, but there is a hoppy bitterness that makes all these flavors come together like a cheap port after brushing your teeth.

Dark pout with little head. Almost all alcohol all around with notes of raisin/grape. This smells and tastes like I should be doing shots of this. Maybe i just don’t like Barley Wines.

Bottle from MrPickles...thanks Andy! - Yeah, not feeling this one. Pours nice--a rosy copper with a small off-white head. Smells slightly sweet with a good deal of booze and a bit of baking spice that I can’t place. The alcohol sours the malt a bit and just makes it smell off. The taste is way too sweet--caramel with a bit of milk chocolate, and still way too hot. Real sharp and not inviting. Not impressed.

Pretty average ass beer. I aged it a bit but it is flat and boring, just some caramel, just a shitty beer.

Deep brown. Close to no head. Aroma of wood, almonds, and bad soy sauce. Tastes just as bad. Initially harsh and full of alcohol, it then mellows out, with a texture and taste of overripe dark fruit. Not enjoyable.

Pours deep copper with a small head. Very heavy palate, bordering on syrup. Very sweet. It’s ok but only in small amounts. I rarely say this, but this might be a but to sweet and thick.

Opening with a faint hiss, the bottle dispenses its murky, blood red contents, devoid of any carboantion or foam. Aromas progress from toasty, molasses-y malt to intense fruit… concentrated pear, watermelon, and fig… then incense, and an alcohol assault like a swarm of bees. The beer tastes overly sweet, syrupy and plummy, and finishes with an unpleasant tension between black coffee and bubblegum flavors. It is perhaps the sweetest barley-based libation I’ve tasted. An equally ambiguous aftertaste flaunts intense anise, roasty/woody, and yeasty/cantaloupe characters… plus a blossoming ethanol nova. Sticky, lead-heavy heft ensures maximum flavor hangtime. Horn Dog takes high gravity beer to unpleasant excess… any carbonation at all would have resulted in a palatable quadrupel; otherwise, I would consider it an ice cream topping.

Poured into a snifter. Appearance is a dark, murky, amber with a quickly dissipating, bubbly, beige, head. Aroma is of dried fruits, prunes, and a tinge of alcohol. Taste is somewhat musty. I get hints of burnt caramel and an alcohol burn in the finish. All around unremarkable. The nose hinted at much more than this beer actually has to offer. Rather unfortunate.
