2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Opaque dark body with a white bubbly head that immediately dissapears. Chocolate cake and red wine in the nose. To me, the flavor was muddled and confusing. There’s a big brandy-like sweetness up front along with some mouth-puckering bitter hops. Finishes with warm alcohol in the throat. Not a very good barleywine.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Drank it a couple of days ago (bought a four pack - not sure if that was a good idea right off the bat) so I’m trying to remember much about it. It poured pitch black, ZERO head, and being my first Barley Wine, I’m not sure how to describe it further.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark brown, with thin head that quickly fades. The aroma is clearly malt. The taste is grain alcohol and sweet malt. The alcohol doesn’t hide in this barley wine.

Pours ruby brown, medium sized tan head dissipates quickly. Lots of floaters. Smells deliciously sweet and big. Eek. Flavor is too syrupy for me. Molasses, caramel, too sweet for my taste. Hops seem lost in the sweet malt finish. Call me stupid, but I prefer a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot to this.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown with amber highlights. No head but some carbonation is visible rising from the bottom of the glass. Aroma is candied raisins and sugar with a big dose of alcohol. The taste is very bold and upfront with sweetness and a nasty out of balance hops and alcohol lashing at the end. I love big beers but this ones flavor profile seems totally out of whack. I probably should have let it age for awhile. The mouthfeel is exceptional. Nice and smooth and creamy with a great coating effect. Not a barley wine I will buy again.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma is sweet and chemical. Deep ruby body with thin off white head and no lacing. Taste is dark, roasted, thinner than expected. Something in the finish is off. Texture is like a scouring pad. Not very smooth or luxurious like many other BWSA’s. A shame really. Not sweet at all, which is a relief, but the chemical flavor is very present.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle (7 oz./207ml). Vintage 2008. From a discounted 8-pack of four Flying Dog high-gravity beers. Mild sweet aromas, alcohol fumes. Cloudy copper color with no head. Sweet & sour initial, honeyish mid palate, and a sweet final that fades very quickly. Medium body. An unimpressive barleywine, Has not aged well (and four years should not be too long).

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Deep brown. Close to no head. Aroma of wood, almonds, and bad soy sauce. Tastes just as bad. Initially harsh and full of alcohol, it then mellows out, with a texture and taste of overripe dark fruit. Not enjoyable.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Poured dark brown with medium off-white head. Pretty decent lacing. Caramel and some spiciness. Taste is very sweet! Does this have any hops? Some minimum bitterness on the swallow. Not a great representation of this style.
