VeloVampire (365), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 26, 2008 Updated: Mar 27, 2008 12 oz bottle, 2006 vintage - poured a deep, deep roan with a decent sized off-white head that leaves nice lace. Aroma filled with dark fruit - prune, brown sugar, grapes, some alcohol, and a faint hop presence. Flavour is very round in the mouth - a year of aging has done this beer very well, and there is some alcohol present, but it is warming at the back of the throat, rather than the sharp burn of a young barley wine. Nicely integrated flavours, although it becomes a bit too sweet as it warms. Good beer, not great.
fidelis83 (13), Clinton, Iowa, USA Jul 6, 2008 Pours cloudy copper. Thin white head that lasts, some lacing. Aroma of plums licorice and and sweet liquor. Flavor of licorice granola and grassy hops. Slightly sweet but not too sweet licorice and alcohol finish warms as it goes down. Great taste, not my favorite style but this is one of the more drinkable examples I’ve found. chicagobears (312), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA Jul 4, 2008 Pours a brownish red. Fruit aromas with a lot of alcohol in the nose. I imagine it would mellow out with age. Has a harsh bite to it.
dutch23mp (81), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA Jul 4, 2008 Very tasty sweet taste good aroma but appearance is very flat. wonderful aroma! saving one for a later date. polomagnifico (380), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle thanks to dchmela, thanks again! Aroma of caramel and licorice malt, dark dried fruits, some resin hops and a little alcohol. Dark brown murky hue with a small almost fully diminishing of khaki head that left little lace. Flavor is sweet caramel and raisin malt with a little resin hop bitterness on the finish. Full bodied and oily soft. Alcohol is a little too pronounced throughout. Very nice for a young barley wine. A couple of years and this could be really good. Ethereal (679), London, Greater London, England Jul 2, 2008 Bottle at Chris_O’s 19th April 2008 tasting. Pours a cloudy reddish amber. Very sweet, with cola and chocolate malt flavours in the ascendancy. The aroma is similar. Decent weight but not a great barley wine.
