albert_007 (409), Penobsquis, New Brunswick, Canada Jan 28, 2007 Bottle. Pours thick dark-mahogany with a couple of off white bubbles.Aroma is stongly sweet with rasins, and other fruits with a tinge of scotchy booze. A bit of a nutty, woody flavor and very malty sweet finish with the same scotch-alcohol highlights. Pretty good sipping beer, and i think would do well with some more ageing, as others have mentioned before.
BillWyce (32), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 12, 2008 Poured a nuttty brown with virtually no
head. Some yeast sediment noted. Heavy aroma of sweet malt with a note
of chocolate in the background. Palate
was slightly oily and slightly astringent.
Sweet, but not as heavily so as other
barleywines I’ve had. Some chocolate notes and a slight licorice aftertaste as
it warmed a bit. Hansen (1780), Randers, Denmark Oct 11, 2008 Amber and a bit unclear. Off-white head, mostly lasting. Sweet aroma, malt, caramel. Flavor starts sweet and finish moderate bitter. Syrup bitter. Rciesla (891), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a ruby brown body with a quickly diminishing head. Nice dark fruit flavor of raisin and grapes. The etoh makes it come off a bit vinous, a nice viscous mouthfeel very sweet. Good beer. jsh12bama (227), Alabama, USA Oct 3, 2008 Pours ruby red with thick tan head. Aroma of malt and dark fruit. Taste is very sweet with heavy notes of dark fruits ,maybe plums. Big alcohol finish. Decent. hughie (2286), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Oct 3, 2008 Reddish brown. Smooth, sweet malty aroma with stewed plums. Taste is heavy and sweet, almost cloyingly so, full of dark, figgy fruitiness, alcohol, and black, chewy liquorice. There’s a thick, lingering dryness at the finish. Should have kept this one for Christmas.
