On the brink of extinction, they were plucked from obscurity and thrown into the spotlight. Facing ignorance and disinterest, someone saw potential...and knew they would be big. We’re not dishing on the latest undeserving Hollywood celebutante counting down their 15 minutes. We’re talking about the big, bold, and beautiful Centennial hops. With huge floral and citrus notes, these high alpha hops are one of the the industry’s few triple threats. They can be used for bittering, aroma, and flavor, which make them perfect for our latest Single Hop Imperial IPA.

The appearance is clear with an orangish hue and little head. The aroma is a combination of citrus, caramel and spice. There miht be some subtle floral and pine notes as well. Taste is a little sweet at first but then turns bitter with a lingering finish. The body is medium and a little chewy. You can tell the alcohol is there but it is under control. I preferred the Flying Dog Chinook Single Hop but this is still good stuff.

[10/7/13] Draught at Delirium Hoppy Loft in Brussels. Clear deep golden. Aroma of piney hops, a bit stale. Flavor has some sweetish malt, a bit caramelly, and some stale piney hops with pretty light bitterness. Too sweet, not bitter enough and not fresh enough. Still OK.

slightly hazy light amber colour, moderate off-white head; aroma of pine resin, some citrussy notes and hints of honey; taste is fully dominated by hoppy bitterness and resin; not bad, but a bit one dimensional (similarly to the most of the single-hop IPAs)

Sampled side by side with the citra variety. Both had an identical dull golden pour with ring of near white head. Sweeter and more mellowed than the citra. More caramel/honey old hop sweetness also shows up. Centennial seems to be just the standard go-to hop of the west. I think I can now pick it out of a lineup. Still, pretty good DIPA in its own right.

TheJestersBeer (2188) - SWEDEN - JUN 14, 2013
UPDATED: JUL 7, 2013 Draught @ Sorbon. Pours a clear medium amber, with a white head. Intense, hoppy, resiny aroma, apricot, grass, marmalade, caramel. Off dry, full bodied, high bitterness, creamy CO2. Very hoppy taste, spruce, apricot, caramel, grass, marmalade. Complex and laughably drinkable. (2013-06-14)

Thx! To Antoine. Sampler draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Bright orange, little white head. Nose is very syrupy for an IPA, grapefruit, white grapes, sweet candy sugar, toffee, sweet spices,… Taste is sweet boozy syrup, candy sugar, light booze, bitter floral, caramel, sweet spices, very little grapefruit,.. Quite sticky, oily body. Enjoyable but not really what I nor most are probably seeking in an IPA.
