3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle into a goblet. Golden amber, slight white head, fairly heavy lacing. Spicy, grassy citrus aroma. Taste is peppery, assertively bitter, pine, a bit of tropical fruit. Only Flying Dog could make citra this mediocre.

Golden amber pour with a white head. Smells like grapefruit and mango. Tons of layered citrus flavor, predominately grapefruit, but not overwhelming. Followed by a light malt body to smooth out the bitterness at the end. Malt hangs on after the bitterness fades. Very well rounded beer.

BEAST! Super bitter, strong heavy flavor of pine and resin. Still, relatively (for 10%) easy drinking which leads to total palate decimation. Finishes dry. Probably the most aggressive of the single hop series.

On tap into a snifter at Maddy’s Taproom in DC. Citra hop wallop of aroma, which was awesome. I really dig this new (ish) hop that came out of washington in 2007. I have used it in a couple of the beers I have brewed. Great representation of the hop. Clean super citrus flavors, with a just enough carmel malt backbone. Good lacing that sticks around. Just a solid representation of the hop. Well done.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 21, 2014 Best before August 28, 2013.
Appearance: The body is clear with an amber hue, the head is thin and creamy with average retention.
Aroma: Aromas of peach, mango, oranges and pineapple come to mind, very tropical and enticing.
Taste: The beer is moderately bitter with a grapefruit tinge. Peach is on the intro with mango underlying the bitterness. This drinks nicely with a slightly herbal finish.
Palate: Medium bodied, a tad oily, with moderate carbonation.
Overall: I like the hop profile, or at least the aromas they’ve coaxed out of this. It really shows the complexity of the Citra hop and it’s a rather good value considering prices of imperial IPAs lately.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Dupont tap ($6): Pours an orange color with a white head. Aroma is a hefty amount of citrus, with grapefruit and orange taking first whistle. Beer is rather hop forward as one would expect, leaving a sustained aftertaste for quite a while. Some complexity in the hop, but mostly this was a showcase for the citra hops.

Bottle. Golden color with a perfectly formed white head. Nose is mostly wet grass with a hint of citrus. Flavor starts out juicy, rich, and loaded with grapefruit-like hops, leading to a similar finish that's a bit too abrasive. Perhaps citra isn't an ideal finishing hop, but otherwise a very nice beer, and one that makes me want to brew with citra.

Tap at FH, strangely i’m finding that a lot of places that try to over hop citra give it a poor flavor, it seems as though citra beers approaching 9.5% or higher ABV are the most susceptible, and this is no exception pungent nose but off taste comes through.. really a decent beer, but so much citra it doesnt play well.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler from Spirits. Pours a clear golden/orange color with 2 fingers of white head. Aroma of big citrus and sweet tropical fruit notes. Mango, pineapple, peach, apricot, orange peel, and a hint of bready malt. Taste is extremely hop forward. Sweet orange up front, followed by mango, peach, pineapple, apricot, and some bready malt in the background.

Crack the bottle and take a wiff get strong dank pine smell real awesome. As I pour the tropical citrus smell comes out. First taste is pine all the way but more citrus mixed with a little pine as the beer warmed. Another good beer in the single hop line from Flying Dog.
