COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You call that a hop? THIS is a hop. Developed and grown solely in Australia, Galaxy hops impart distinctive grapefruit and passionfruit character from when the beer first greets the nose until the last of it lingers on the palate. Combined with a crisp, dry finish, our last Single Hop Imperial IPA release of 2012 will leave you begging for more. Number of obnoxious references to Australian pop culture used: 1. Draft. Pours gold, big white head, some retention/lace. Aroma is melon/piney hops, caramel. Taste is very bitter, pine/melon/citrus hops, caramel malt sweetness. Palate is crisp, oily, bitter finish. I’m guessing an older keg.

32oz fresh growler, from DEPs. Shared with Alicia. Mostly hazy vibrant orange color. Thin white head. Little lace. Bigger body. Nice, smooth, lighter crisp carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Wow, I really dig the Galaxy hop. Very big hop flavor. Resin, grapefruit, light pine... Some tropical fruit... Some pineapple. Big bitter taste, nothing astringent, though. A good, huge hoppy bitterness. Minimal sweet. Minimal caramel malt profile to this, more just a huge, assertive hop assault, that lasts minutes into the aftertaste. Love that I can continue to taste the hoppiness long after the swallow. Pretty awesome super assertive Galaxy showcase.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($6): Pours a light amber with a white head. Aroma is peach and pineapple, and I guess a bit of citrus. Taste is fruity as all hell. This ain’t that bitter, because this hop is a fruity mane. Alcohol is sufficiently well covered. Good beer.

Growler. Clear dark orange pour, plenty of nice frothy carbonation and an aroma juicy orangy hops. Flavor is also nice juicy citrusy hops, plenty of malt which balanced out the bitterness nicely and finished sweet and almost creamy. Pretty damn nice at any price.

Keg at Portculis Bristol, 21st February 2013. Poured by incompetent bar maid, into a half pint glass and then poured from that into a flying dog glass, producing a huge head. Beer was full on, nice aroma and full bodied taste, the alcohol was not well hidden

Keg at North Bar, Leeds. Pours a classic Orange-gold, fingers of creamy head. Aroma is brilliant and complex: big passionfruit and grapefruit hit, some breadiness, lots of cereals, pineapple juice, apple juice and, bizarrely, pink and white almond nougat. Stunning nose, one of the most complex I’ve had in quite a while. Taste is great, too - sharp grapefruit, breadiness, passionfruit, a little sherbet. Basically, just a massive bag of titting hops. Lovely rye-ish spiciness, too. It’s like, knowing they were doing a single hop beer, they decided to go to town on the malt bill to complement it as well as possible: as horrifyingly pretentious as it sounds, you can taste the effort. Better but juicy and flavour finish, medium-full body. This is seriously good.
