355ml bottle @ Hilpeä Hauki, Helsinki

BBE 09.02.13 - Pours light clear orange with a small foamy head. Aroma of fruity hops, spices, malts and hints of earthy notes. Taste is malty and spicy with some fruitness, citrus and hints of earthy notes. Finish is slightly bitter and fruity with citrus. Okay, not really a saison but not really an IPA either.

Pours a soft lemon rind yellow with two fingers of frothy white head. Nose is very spicy and zesty. Lots of citrusy character and phenolics/esters from the yeast. Smells like mandarin orange and coriander. Bitterness and astringency from the spices and hops is a bit much. Super dry.

12 oz. bottle. Hazed orange pour with a copious white head. My glass runneth over. Where’s the paper towels? Aroma of belgian yeast, mild funk, lots of citrus and tropical fruits. Flavor is strongly bitter, well-balanced with the fruity esters from the saison yeast. This kind of odd as a hopped-up Saison or a Belgian IPA, but it tastes really great. I guess Citra hops make everything better. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with spritzy carbonation. This beer finishes dry and bitter. This is pretty nice

Bottle. Cloudy yellow with a handsome, foamy white head. Aroma is powerful peppery Belgian yeast. Slightly perfumed. A familiar Saison cheesiness. Flavour is majorly yeast driven. Sweet malt to begin with a sourness. Lemony. The bitterness takes over from that leading to a satisfying yeasty finish. A really delicious Saison.

Aroma is yeasty, lightly citrus, and a floral hop characteristic as well. Appearance is a cloudy golden/ orange with a very thick white head that lingers. Taste has got a nice hop note, smooth Beligian notes, yeasty, and a peppery note. Palate has got nice belgian note, and a lightly dry aftertaste. Overall, I like it quite a bit. Cheers!

355ml bottle. Pours golden, with steady bubbles and a generous head. The nose has a savoury cheese/yoghurt note, typical saison in fact. The taste has savoury and lemon pith notes with a farmyard grainy background. The palate is medium bodied and has a nice mouthfeel and then a long dry finish. Overall, I’m not sure I like the extreme bitterness and sourness combination - it could do with more balanced but it grows .

(Bottle, 0.355 l, at Hilpeä Hauki, 20120523) The keg was finished before I arrived, pity. The beer poured amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had hops, spices, sourness and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were hops, fruitiness, grass, sourness, spices, malst and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy, sour, spicy and bitter. A decent hoppy saison.

Aromas are classic saison - straw, funky wild yeast, some sourness, plenty of candy. A slightly hazy golden number with a tightly packed white head. Initially rather aggressive and bitter - prickly carbonation and hop bitterness make a second-take necessary before it settles out into a very smooth sweet belgian affair, finishing with a massive lemonpeel-bitter citra hop finish. Some substantial bitterness, incredibly refreshing and pleasantly perfumed in the finish. Scarily drinkable and easy going for its strength. Just wonderful.

Clear deep orange color, small steady white head. Fruity, apple, pear, Bretta-like tartness. Medium-bodied. Fruity, flowery hoppy, bitter, a bit tart flavor. Fruity American style saison.
