Commercial Description:
Brewed in the centuries old tradition of German beers, our brewers use more wheat and proprietary yeast to give it the unmistakable character of a flavorful, authentic Hefeweizen. The High proportion of wheat gives In Heat its smooth, full-mouth feel and our special yeast gives it its unique fruity and spicy aroma.

June 2006 - Call me crazy, but I really liked this! Beer poured opague yellow with a little head and little lacing. Aroma was strong banana and cloves. The flavor was likewise with a solid wheat base, bananas (and a touch of other citrusy fruits maybe?) and cloves. Add in a touch of pepper and a faint bubble gum like flavor. Very light and refreshing. A nice beer for the summertime. Finally a beer from Flying Dog that I would like to drink again!

In-Heat Wheat pours a hazy sunrise yellow. The head is generous but disappears quickly. Lots of wheat and banana, with a spicy and citrus finish. Different and kind of Americanized, but drinkable.

Having spent time in Europe, I have had several real hefeweizens. This ain’t one. The literal translation of the term hefeweizen is "yeast wheat". Traditionally unfiltered, the beers are cloudy with a bananna aroma, and a good malt backbone to balance out the aroma. This beer had only a slight haze that indicated some kind of filtration, and poured a 1/4" head that vanished in seconds. No lacing, few tracers. This beer would be ok for someone who has never had a true hefeweizen. If they decide they like the style, then they could move on to true hefe beer

12 ounce bottle. I must admit that I was pretty excited for this beer. I have not had too many Hefe’s and was looking forward to this one. I am sad to say that my expectations were not met. Pours a hazy yellow color with a .5 finger width head that disappeared very quickly. The aroma was this beers strong point with hints of citrus, yeast and fruit. The taste was full of citrus hints with a lot of yeast that overpowered the beer. It was very light bodied and had a strange metallic aftertaste. I was very disappointed with this beer...

Rating 600 on this beer! Hazy golden with a thin head. Aroma and flavor are light and sweet. Light notes of corn and butter (popcorn?) with an overarching sourness.

Pours a hazy amber with a small white head (comprised of tiny bubbles) that reduces fairly quickly. The nose is classic hefe: lightly dusty and lightly sour wheat with citrus and yeasty banana notes in supporting roles. These notes are not as well balanced or integrated as some hefes, but I still like the aroma. The mouthfeel is light and slick with fairly assertive carbonation and a clean finish. The flavor follows the nose, concluding with an emphasis on a light clove note. While this may not be a top tier hefeweizen, I think its a fairly solid and tasty brew. It’s certainly better than I was expecting given my experience with other Flying Dog session beers and the average score it holds on this site.

Pours a lightly cloudy burnt orange color with a massive, foamy, beige head. Smells mostly of sweet citrus, some wheat characters, but not a ton. Nothing offensive, but somewhat disappointing aroma for this style. The flavor is a touch overcarbonated. Some spice and alot of orange citrus make up the flavor along with the miniscule wheat character I barely noticed in the smell. Needs a little more wheat and banana flavors that typically come withthis style. The citrus is a bit too much. Definitely drinkable, but disappointing.
