jodyperkins (70), Mississippi, USA Apr 7, 2007 In all fairness, this is the first wheat beer I’ve had - and it may be the last.
Poured from a bottle (from aFlying Dog Sampler 12 pack). Poured a very cloudy, golden color. Lots of carbonation but little head. It smelled like rotting hay and tasted worse. Has a very strange taste and a sour aftertaste. I can’t describe the way it feels in the mouth but I didn’t enjoy it.
After a few swallows this was poured into the sink. I hope it doesn’t kill the bacteria in my septic tank.
zeth1560 (1), Collinsville, Illinois, USA does not count Apr 3, 2007 I tried this beer on a whim a few years ago based on little more than its name and twisted label. To my surprise, I was instantly enamoured. This beer has the perfect blend of taste and grittiness that I have come to expect from a really good hefe. Since my initial experience I have found myself having regular cravings for it, and have on several occasions driven long distances just to track it down. This beer hants my soul. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Mar 30, 2007 Bottle. Sweetish nose of light wheat and lemon. Body is cloudy golden with a soapy white head, strong carbonation. Light body, smooth feel lacks all trace of that carbonation. Muddled, doughy wheat taste with lemon. Simple byt fine. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Mar 27, 2007 Yeasty banana nose, sweet with light sour quality. Not bad up front, good banana character, wheat and dough flavor. Finish has a bit of a mineral taste and light sourness. Pours very cloudy gold wtih a soft white head. Not as crisp as some German-style hefes, but solid and enjoyable. Hinez57 (129), Clinton, Mississippi, USA Mar 15, 2007 Updated: Aug 2, 2008I finally got a fresh one of these and have adjusted my score up by just over a point. Nice bready aroma with a light clove and hint of fruity ester. Average approx 4 SRM appearance with decent head. Nice wheaty flavor with little input from malt, light clove and very light banana esters. Seems to be a blend of American wheat and German wheat yeast. Nice mouth feel, no flaws. Overall an awesome thirst quencher, but lacks the complexity to score higher. I’m glad I tried this one again! Rictus (126), Camdenton, Missouri, USA Mar 4, 2007 Bland yeasty aroma. It was cloudy and bright yellow gold. Oddly enough no head (for a hefe that is very strange indeed). It had a slight sour yeastyness mixed in with banana. Very smooth and thick mouthfeel. Overall it’s mediocre but I like it. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 1, 2007 Bottle. Best before or brewed on 29.07.06. Pours a hazy pale gold with an average size diminishing white head. Aroma of banana, citrus and spices foremost followed by wheat, yeast and other fruit -- just alright. Slightly watery flavour has a decent balance of yeast, citrus, spices and hops with some grain and wheat thrown in. Average bodied. Didn’t knock my socks off but it’s good. bradmccarroll (57), San Antonio, Texas, USA Feb 24, 2007 Poured from a bottle a cloudy golden color. Quite citrusy in smell with a hint of bananas which matched the taste. Medium pallate with a creamy finish.
