lamas (1201) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 2, 2013
Bottle. Best by date on the side: 05/17/13. A clear ruby pour with a smallish khaki head. The aroma features a little caramel, sweet cereal grains, berries, Red Delicious apples, and a dusting of cinnamon & nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied on the way down. Caramel, a rich breadiness, Red Delicious apples, candi sugar, and some raisins/plums start things off taste-wise. Some estery berry flavors finish things off along with the faintest hint of citrus. Wintry spices are noticeable at the end. A slight boozy quality is present throughout. Not bad at all. I’m shocked I hadn’t rated this already.

12 oz bottle - pours clear crimson-brown, nice whitish head, medium and lasting. Big caramel, malty biscuit, raisin and vanilla notes on the nose. Decent big cola notes, cookie and plum, touch of hops at the end. Nice warmer for the winter from local boys.

The head is small, the body dark red. It smells cherry, malty, fruity, aromatic, nice. The taste is fruity-cherry-plum, a bit raisin, a bit bitter, bitter-alcoholic, grapefruit. Aftertaste bitter. Nice one! 11/12/11/12/14/12

12 oz. bottle from Village Market, Hampton Falls, NH. Lager glass shows a caramel / ruby color. Small head with little head retention. Aroma sweet and malty with a strange spice in there. Medium bodied, light bitterness with appropriate carbonation. Weak malt bill, trances of toffee and caramel. ABV is a tad noticeable. Also, the malt or hops are of English variety for sure. I find a strange off putting spice note here. I had a hard time finishing the glass.
