Pours brown but nearly black and slick with a rich brown sugar mocha head that fades to a solid rim and coating. No lacing. Aroma is buttery coffee and roasted grains. Taste is heavenly smooth and creamy sweet roasted malts and coffee. with notes of chocolate and even vanilla. Could be more bitter and a bit more rich and flavor-deep, but great-tasting and no sense of the ABV at all. Super smooth on the palate. Very drinkable. I enjoyed this quite a bit. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head that disappears in seconds. The aroma is sweet malt, vanilla, and coffee grinds. The taste is dark roast coffee with vanilla. The mouthfeel is rich and bold yet creamy. Damn good! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, with another impressively messy label. Nose very strong dark chocolate with strong beany coffee, some light mineral and fruit as accents but those are both overwhelmed. Brown black pour with a fizzy dark brown head. Taste is sweet but that dries out quickly, faintly acrid but with a rich and developed bitterness, smooth and silky feel with very little astringency, a full body with light fizz leads to sticky lips. Malt is somewhat suppressed (or was absent in the first place) and whatever hops were added aren’t contributing much at all. Pleasant and sultry, alcohol well-concealed, to be celebrated for its texture, at least. There’s a clear oily-oaty feel and the chocolate at times seems to have absorbed certain dessert characteristics, but on the whole, I, as a coffee (and coffee-beer) lover, register my disappointment.

Draft at Flying Dog Brewery poured into a goblet. Pours a brownish black with tan head. Smells of mostly roast and coffee, some dark chocolate. Tasting notes of roast, burnt coffee, caramel, slight dark fruit, subtle licorice. Full body with a sticky/oily dry finish.

12 oz bottle. Pours black, with a small head which dissipates quickly. Nose is coffee aroma. Taste is coffee up front, with a long-lasting mouthfeel. Finish is long and pleasant. A well-made, easy drinking imperial coffee stout which hides the alcohol content well.
