Draft sample at Cincy Beerfest 2014 on Fountain Square. Pours a beautiful opaque brown with a big dark tan head that takes a little while to settle. Great looking beer. Notes of chocolate, coffee, cardboard, burnt toast, tobacco, earth, and roast. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a chalky, roasty mouthfeel. It seems kind of old; or at least it initially did before growing on me a little.

"Had this one bottled a while back - not sure why i didnít rate right away. A worthy beer, loads of coffee and bitterness up front, with some sweet coffee and chocolate to temper the flavor. medium to thick feel, and pretty smooth for the abv."

Bottled, 355ml at The Beer Cellar, Exeter, Devon. Black with tan head. There is a smoothness to this, full palate, rich, chocolate malts along with a smooth coffee grounds, tarry in the close. This is rather scrumptious and very drinkable, probably not for a Tuesday lunch time though.

" Enjoy your new pet! He said. 12hrs later, your heart is pounding with terror as you wake up to find the savage beast growling over a puddle of your neighbours organs. And thatís not coffee on your breath this morning, itís a fear. Sleep tight my friend. "

Bottle at home. Pours black with oily tan head, decent lacing. Aromas are chocolate, coffee, liquorice, fruit cake, berries, wood. Medium sweet and a little bitter at first, getting more bitter toward the finish. Alcohol warmth later. Mouthfeel is slick, a little cocoa powder at the end. Not much carbonation.

Deep super dark brown coloured body with a thin layer of a deep rich brown head, less than a centimetre tall. Aroma of coffee, alcohol, roasted malt, molasses, buckwheat, cream and more alcohol - pungent. Full-bodied; Rich, chocolate, chewy mouthful of alcohol, earth, coffee, cream, soy sauce, mushrooms, roasted malt, nuts and figs. Aftertaste shows a lot of alcohol, some chocolate, but tons of coffee and nuts - deep and strong throughout with a slightly bittering, but very strong coffee flavour. Overall, a decent beer, but not great - there are some good flavours, but the depth and coffee are perhaps a bit too extreme and donít work out as well as they should or as they could. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Food in Falls Church, Virginia on 13-February-2014 for US$1,83 sampled at home in New Paltz, New York on 30-August-2014.
