Bottle courtesy of Tripphop over on BA. Deep brown in color with a small khaki head. Head quickly fades into a small collar around the edge of the beer. Aroma contains chocolate, vanilla, some roasted malts, but coffee... not so much. Maybe a sweeter coffee that I don’t drink much of I guess. Sweet chocolate, cream, some cocoa pebbles, slightly astringent finish. A little thinner bodied than I had expected. I think this is a solid beer, but never do I get the feeling that this is a coffee beer. Also, still no erection. At this point I’m guessing I could have an 8/10 looking stripper grinding on me and likely not get an erection. Sad, as I was at half mast just due to anticipation before drinking the Royal Virility Performance.

12oz Bottle, Batch 2. Shared with mattyb83. Pours dark brown/black with a tan head. Aroma consisting of dark chocolate, nuts, wood, slight coffee (but not very much), some vanilla. Smells similar to a Nestle crunch ice cream bar right before you bite into one. Not a lot of coffee in the flavor either. Slightly creamy, roasted malt, sweet vanilla, chocolate all dominate the flavor with just a tad of coffee on the finish. Should maybe rename this, Latte stout.

pitchblack, almost headless, pours like oil.... aroma is smokey, contains coffee, bread, iodine and some fresh malts, aroma is complex but not very intense.....taste is bitter and a bit sour, has hints of coffee not overly complex.. finish, although not that long, is much more sofisticated with an intense coffee flavour, lots of bitterness and a sweet and warming finish... the palate is brilliant, this beer is insanely thick, oily yet pretty lively... very unique beer, delicious

Poured from a chilled 12 oz single purchased at Beckley’s liquor along route 15 in Frederick MD (near intersection with Willow Rd). Excellent deep dark pour with rich mahogany head. Head fades eventually to nothing, but very impressive in the glass. Aroma of roasted nuttiness. Taste was more chocolate than coffee when cold. Upon warming the coffee comes through more clearly. Hnts of vanilla. Body was mid to full and the feel was quite creamy. Finsh is smooth roast with plenty of coffee; no bitterness or burn. Nice work all around.

12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. This brew came highly recommended as a cheaper DDC Peche Mortel. Would that it were! Pours dark and grainy with only a sliver of a tan head. Body is fairly still, like flat cola. Nose has some mild roast coffee notes, but mostly chocolate notes. Body is far too thin and slick, with very little carbonation to speak of. And the flavors continue to be too sweet and chocolately, with very little coffee - at least in this bottle.

Bottle… Pours coal black with a small, fizzy, beige head. Fantastic, creamy retention – its staying power is amazing. The aroma presents boatloads of acrid espresso and hefty doses of blackstrap molasses and dark chocolate. Full-bodied and silky with tickling carbonation. The flavor offers tons of deeply roasted coffee, black malts and dark chocolate flanked by a hint of blackstrap molasses. Unfortunately, it’s about as sweet as molasses. I wish they had balanced this out more. Burnt, carbonaceous finish with acute, lingering sweetness.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2012 A very dark brown beer with small yet thick head. Coffee, roasted nuts, earthy and dough. A stout as it should be with great amount of balanced sweetness and a lingering bitterness throughout. Pleasant stickiness. Maybe misses a little complexity in the end. Great taste throughout; highly recommended. (355ml bottle)

Very dark brown/black with a thick tan head. Great lacing. Aroma of ground coffee, bitter chocolate, vanilla. Flavor is very sweet but well balanced at the same time. Milk chocolate and vanilla at first with a roasted bitter coffee finish. Great mouth-feel, medium bodied.

Light brown head and a mellow coffee aroma. Now the mouthfeel and the integration af flavors and alcohol is this beers force majeure. Its so drinkable it needs a warning sign.. Anyway, all of the aromas and flavors are subtle and in great ballance. Aftertaste doesn’t get bitter or drying in any way. (batch 2)
