3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to Dmac. Pours out an almost black brown color with a fading tan head. Aroma is of coffee, roast and sweet alcohol. Taste is smooth light roast coffee, chocolate, light malty roast and a tad of sweetness in there also. Alcohol makes a slight appearance on the finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Botttle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a creamy/bubbly dark tan head. Strong burnt/smoke malt with coffee for aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is chocolate/vanilla with a lot of smooth burnt malt and then strong coffee. It gives the illusion of sweet, maybe because it’s thick, but it’s burnt and dry. Of all things I am definitely getting banana in the finish. Weird and complex, but very tasty.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Draught) Pours black with a brown head. The aroma holds fruits, vanilla, caramel and chocolate up front with undertones black currant candy, cold coffee, green bell pepper, earth and sweet liquorice. Not much coffee on the nose. The flavour is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of vanilla, round coffee, light fruity/resinous hops and dark bread alongside a touch of liquorice. The mouthfeel is round, soft and a bit velvety with a light to medium carbonation. Coffee, liquorice and friendly hops on the finish. Medium to full bodied.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of a nice mixture of dark chocolate, coffee, and light vanilla. As it warms, some fruit and alcohol notes come out. It pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a two finger light brown head with good retention and some minimal lacing. The flavor starts with moderate dark chocolate and light molasses. The finish has notes of coffee, a touch of vanilla, and a hint of burnt notes. It’s medium-full bodied with light carbonation and a somewhat oily mouthfeel. It certainly doesn’t look flat, but the carbonation is really lacking and I would just stop short of calling it flat. Overall, I really like the flavor, but some more carbonation would go a long way.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Whole Foods Manhattan New York. Pours a motor oil black, very small tan head that recedes to a small ring, minute spots of lacing. Smells chocolaty and coffee, caramelized malt. Tastes rich and sweet, chocolate and coffee again. Really nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Whole Foods, P St, DC sixer ($15): Pours a black color with a very brown head. Aroma is coffee and roasted malts and coffee. Oh, there is some chocolate there too. This beer is one of them smooth and mellow imperial stouts. I always forget these exist. It is scarily easy to drink. Goes down wicked smooth, perhaps at the expense of some brutality and complexity. Some coffee finish, but not too much. If you were to tell me this was an imperial I would have difficulty believing you.

Flavour is a nice mocca coffee and roast goodness with a sidenote of fruity malts. Good stuff.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a black beer, with just a deep dark brown edge.
Medium lively brown head that changes quick into a smaller vast head/lacing. After a longer while, there’s only a black beer left in the glass.
Smell coffee, toffee, dark bitter rum liquorice, (dried) raisin, bit boozy, roasted coffee, burned barleys, burned malts and a slight touch of vanilla.
Taste is a bit out of tone, but not bad. There’s some good coffee roast, bitter, roasted/burned malts/barleys, roasted autumnal herbs, some dark chocolate, toffee and caramel, light vanilla and again a light boozy tint. There seems to be some kind of dark liquorice, but changes into a more dark chocolate bitterness.
The out of tone exists out of the (roasted) coffee, (roasted) chocolate and (roasted) liquorice... Bit unbalanced.. But hey, that’s only one minor thingy...
Good bitter coffee roast (liquorice) dark chocolate vanilla aftertaste.
Low carbo, soft creamy almost silky mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture.
I really like the label, expected more of this beer, but again, it’s absolutely not bad!
