4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 Bottle. Tasted this beer at the Flying Dog release party last night at Frederick Wine House. They put this beer out last year without a name, but this year they have named it Kujo and added some awesome artwork by Ralph Steadman. This stout is was brewed using a coffee from Black Dog Coffee from WV, this beer is local through and through.
The pour is silky black with a creamy deep tan head. The aroma is one full of roasted notes, dark chocolate, toffee and vanilla with undertones of fresh ground dark roasted coffee beans. First taste was full of roasted malts and dark chocolate which fades to an awesome flavor of dark roasted coffee that lasts.
Overall this is a great Coffee Stout and the best part is that it is totally local. Glad that they added this to their permanent seasonal lineup.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Lots of roast and coffee, though not a total coffee bomb. Pours black with good mocha head and lacing. Thick, creamy consistency. A hint of dark chocolate. Good stuff. Bitter finish.

Strong coffee nose, taste, and finish - a pretty unsubtle but enoyable creamy stout. Medium long finish.

Extremely impressed with this imperial coffee stout. Bourbon flavored, sweetness and roasted coffee bean flavors dominate. Slightly bitter finish. Pours like motor oil with a reddish brown head. Incredible stout

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown black with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet lactic vanilla and chocolate with some dark fruit and acidic coffee roast.
The flavor is sweet vanilla with some dark fruit and a leathery roast coffee finish. The mouhfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is a bit watery.
Overall, it’s a bit overly sweet for me and lacking in coffee.
