4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 Bottle. Tasted this beer at the Flying Dog release party last night at Frederick Wine House. They put this beer out last year without a name, but this year they have named it Kujo and added some awesome artwork by Ralph Steadman. This stout is was brewed using a coffee from Black Dog Coffee from WV, this beer is local through and through.
The pour is silky black with a creamy deep tan head. The aroma is one full of roasted notes, dark chocolate, toffee and vanilla with undertones of fresh ground dark roasted coffee beans. First taste was full of roasted malts and dark chocolate which fades to an awesome flavor of dark roasted coffee that lasts.
Overall this is a great Coffee Stout and the best part is that it is totally local. Glad that they added this to their permanent seasonal lineup.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on the daylight savings time day after a long day of errand running. Appearance is a thick pitch black with a very thin and bubbly dark tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of dark roast coffee, vanilla, light molasses, chocolate, relatively faint. Taste of roasted chocolate, dark roast coffee, light burn, light licorice. It’s pretty good, nothing too impressive, just good.

I have been looking forward to trying Kujo for some time now and i most say it met my expectations. Has a pleasant aroma of coffee beans with a hint of vanilla. A Taste of strong yet smooth coffee to it.

355ml Bottle from Beers of Europe website (£4.39):
Another very enjoyable beer from Flying Dog, this one was surprisingly easy to drink given the strength of the beer and the strong roasted malts and coffee seems to go well towards, striking a good balance and being leveled out a little but the hints of sweetness coming from the dark fruits and sugars. A very nice imperial stout that was well worth picking up although I would probably pick up a bottle of the breweries Gonzo Imperial Stout again before going back to this one.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz bottle.
Pours dark with a thin tan head.
Aroma of dark roast coffee, chocolate and roasted malt.
Taste of coffee, chocolate, malty balance.
Smooth, bitter, slightly astringent finish.
Great beer for a regular price 6pack. Most breweries would jack up the price and put it in a four pack.

I loved this beer. It has a thick smooth mouth feel. Great roasted malt flavors. The 8.9%abv makes you believe it’s gonna taste stronger than it does. It’s velvet in the mouth. I found it to be nearly perfect. I will be buying more. Lots more.
