4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 Bottle. Tasted this beer at the Flying Dog release party last night at Frederick Wine House. They put this beer out last year without a name, but this year they have named it Kujo and added some awesome artwork by Ralph Steadman. This stout is was brewed using a coffee from Black Dog Coffee from WV, this beer is local through and through.
The pour is silky black with a creamy deep tan head. The aroma is one full of roasted notes, dark chocolate, toffee and vanilla with undertones of fresh ground dark roasted coffee beans. First taste was full of roasted malts and dark chocolate which fades to an awesome flavor of dark roasted coffee that lasts.
Overall this is a great Coffee Stout and the best part is that it is totally local. Glad that they added this to their permanent seasonal lineup.

From bottle. Pitch black, little syrupy, foamy coffee brown head that fades. Not getting much of aroma, little hint of coffee maybe. Taste is dominated by the coffee, nice bitterness, dark chocolate, alcohol seems well hidden. Smooth mouthfeel with light carbonation. Pretty nice

On tap at The Daily Pint. Jet black, entirely opaque, two-finger tan head and minimal lace. Rich coffee, roasted malt and coca aromas with hints of dark fruit and alcohol. Flavors of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla bean and warming alcohol. Heavy body, silky smooth mouthfeel, no carbonation and a rich, decadent chocolate finish.
