UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 Bottle. Tasted this beer at the Flying Dog release party last night at Frederick Wine House. They put this beer out last year without a name, but this year they have named it Kujo and added some awesome artwork by Ralph Steadman. This stout is was brewed using a coffee from Black Dog Coffee from WV, this beer is local through and through. The pour is silky black with a creamy deep tan head. The aroma is one full of roasted notes, dark chocolate, toffee and vanilla with undertones of fresh ground dark roasted coffee beans. First taste was full of roasted malts and dark chocolate which fades to an awesome flavor of dark roasted coffee that lasts. Overall this is a great Coffee Stout and the best part is that it is totally local. Glad that they added this to their permanent seasonal lineup.

Tastes as it should, it is made with real coffee so no synthetic falseness. It has a much sweeter aftertaste (vanilla and cream) than I expected and despite the high percentage it is very well balanced.

Strong roasted coffee aroma, black as night, full bodied Imperial Stout. Added coffee enhances but not overwhelms Kujo. Bottles were cellared four months but this stout stayed sharp like a first round NFL pick.

Pours a two finger light tan head that fades quickly to a ring leaving no lace. Black color, no highlights. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Coffee nose and flavor is almost sweet coffee, hints of dark chocolate. Higher ABV is hidden. $3.60 for a 12oz bottle at Bert’s Better Beers Hooksett, NH.

Bottle. Pours a black color with tan head. Coffee, burnt, malty, slight toffee aromas. Burnt, toffee, malty, coffee, slight boozy flavors. Not too heavy on the coffee, and feels a bit more like a porter. But very enjoyable.
