This was a really nice coffee stout, with full, roasty malt flavors and a good, robust, quality coffee flavor which stays with you from start to finish, lingering for a good aftertaste.

Bottle at home. Pours black with oily tan head, decent lacing. Aromas are chocolate, coffee, liquorice, fruit cake, berries, wood. Medium sweet and a little bitter at first, getting more bitter toward the finish. Alcohol warmth later. Mouthfeel is slick, a little cocoa powder at the end. Not much carbonation.

Deep super dark brown coloured body with a thin layer of a deep rich brown head, less than a centimetre tall. Aroma of coffee, alcohol, roasted malt, molasses, buckwheat, cream and more alcohol - pungent. Full-bodied; Rich, chocolate, chewy mouthful of alcohol, earth, coffee, cream, soy sauce, mushrooms, roasted malt, nuts and figs. Aftertaste shows a lot of alcohol, some chocolate, but tons of coffee and nuts - deep and strong throughout with a slightly bittering, but very strong coffee flavour. Overall, a decent beer, but not great - there are some good flavours, but the depth and coffee are perhaps a bit too extreme and don’t work out as well as they should or as they could. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Food in Falls Church, Virginia on 13-February-2014 for US$1,83 sampled at home in New Paltz, New York on 30-August-2014.

Butelka 0.33l Czarna ciecz przyozdobiona ciemną, drobną, średnio obfitą i niezbyt trwałą pianom. W zapachu kawa i ciemne owoce. Aromat mało intensywny. W smaku ciemne owoce (śliwka, rodzynki), kawa, palone słody, lekka czekolada i wanilia. Goryczka o średniej intensywności. Alkohol lekko wyczuwalny.

Pours a thick black colour, with very small tan head which dissapeared almost instantly. Smell of coffee, dark chocolate and slight roasted malt. The taste is very smooth, quite sweet and creamy. The coffee and dark chocolate comes through and it is a real pleasure to drink as the alcohol content is well masked. Perhaps a little too sweet for my liking, but that’s my problem. I would certainly drink again!

Bottle from the Robert Gillow Bottle Shop, Lancaster. Pours black with a tan head. Plenty of bitter coffee and a little liquorice flavour, especially in the finish. I was a little surprised that this wasn’t fuller flavoured. Starts a little sharp with a touch too much carbonation. A fairly oily mouthfeel. Very nice, just a little short of being really amazing.

Bra och god öl. Fin färg och ett vackert skum. Snygg flaska och billig med. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drank this a couple of weeks ago so memory is hazy, but I recall it being black with a tan head; aroma is coffee; taste is roast malt, coffee; it didn’t jump out at me as anything special.

Vintage 2013. 355 ml.
