Pours a copper-reddish color with a thin white head. The aroma is a bit malty, but pretty bland. The flavor seems confused with the most pleasant, somewhat malty flavor appearing about 5 seconds after swallowing. The overall character is pretty stale with ingredients that seem like they sat around for too long. It’s a novel idea to have a beer with both ale and lager characteristics, but I think I’d rather go one way or the other.

Had this swill in a bottle. Nasty nose of horseblanket, dirty socks and barnyard. Pours a
medium ruby copper. The average off-white creamy head is fully diminishing with fair
lacing. The light body is watery and fizzy, finishes chalky. I don’t know if I got a bad
bottle, or if this style just isn’t my bag baby. Almost a drain pour but I was thirsty so I
choked it down.

Wow, my first steam beer, without even trying...the label calls this an amber. Well I don’t get very excited about ambers, so this turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Soft aroma of pound cake and circus peanut candy (very faint). Malty in a pseudo-Belgian fashion, with apricot and other light fruit coming into play. There are definitely ale characteristics present. Understated, earthy hops, and a light texture. Definitely the class of the Flying Dog sampler pack I’ve had.

I’m glad to be tasting another steam beer as they’re pretty damn hard to find (this is only my fourth). The steaming definitely has imparted many malty ale characteristics making it more complex and sweet than most lagers. I’m almost certain I like this better than Anchor Steam because of this beer’s smooth drinkability. Could use more aroma and the Flying Dog labels just don’t work for me - too hard to read.

I liked this amber lager. It is a refreshing change from those other watered down big brewer lagers out there. Got some malt and a good blend make this one of Flying Dog’s better brews.

Medium abmber hue. SMall beige head. Aroma of fruit, pears, sweet malt, grain. Definately has ale characteristics. Juicy, sweet at first, medium to light bodied, caramel accents throughout. Nothin special here.

Pretty malty. I really like Flying Dog because of the Ralph Steadman packaging, rather than the actual beer. I’m not a huge fan of steam beer, but this one is pretty good. Malty, somewhat roasty, without much in the way of hops. The initial sip is pretty powerful, especially if it’s your first beer of the evening, but lacks a bit in the finish. Not necessarily a bad thing, though.

I swear this smells like sausage pizza, so how could I NOT like it? Nice orange-red hue. Milky to the mouth with a surprising caramel/smoky malt. Very good.
