3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at home (BOE) 11/10/12 (birthday beer #1 !).
Light black in colour with a good tan head to begin with but this soon collapses to a pond and the edges. Dark mahogony brown shows through e once the head recedes.
Roast malt nose with a little chocolate, toffee fudge and a little nutiness.
Taste follows from the nose, milk chocolate, a little taste of wood and a touch of the ocean.
Medium bodied with quite a touch of prickly carbonation, a little too much so for my liking.
Drinkable but pretty average and over carbonated.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Looks and pours nice and dark. Drinkable and in itself harmonious brew, but a somewhat lackluster stout with more mineral than salty, lighter mouthfeel than expected (roasted malt+water) than full caramel stout qualities. Are the Rappahannock River oysters used the ones that don’t taste of oyster, or did they only throw in one per batch?

Lively little number this. Never had oysters before. I think I expected more, was going for 3 in a row but this fell a bit short. Bit like the English seaside. Promises much but often fails to deliver. This is more Brighton than Weymouth though. I put the glass to my ear to check if I could hear the sea but I just got wet.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled, 0.355l. Clear dark brown color with medium frothy brownish head and lively carbonation. Strong aroma of roasted coffee, caramel, yeast and seafood, apparently oysters. Taste starts with roasted coffee, followed by sour yeasty and mildly fruity taste. Mouthfeel is a bit salty, but no other taste of shells or other seafood. Aftertaste still roasty and quite hoppy. Full body, thick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Expected some disgusting combination, but appeared fully acceptable...

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate/cocoa, roast, vanilla, and faint coffee. It pours a dark brown with some orange transparency and a small soapy beige head. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. The finish has mild roasted coffee with a hint of smoke. It’s light-medium bodied with mild carbonation.
