COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

I get a lot of hop aroma - grassy, minty a little onion - and a nice dose of biterness (ha!), but not too much belgian character. Quite a passable IPA, with a long lasting quinine-like finish.

Bottle from Brewtique, Macclesfield. Beer pours with a big fluffy white head with a deep golden colour. The aroma coming off the beer is pretty strange, you get a nose full of hops, some citrus and a little woody/pine, but you also get a nose full of classic belgian yeast. On taste, this beer has a massive hop bite, with nice floral/citrus hop flavour. However, the yeast used gives a nice belgian twang to this pretty standard IPA, making it much more interesting.

Bottle to pint glass, pours nice glossy golden color with a nice head. The aroma is mainly grassy. I like the hoppy hit that it delivers on first sip. Bitter but great

Pours dark hazy copper with a half a finger of off white head. Smell is slightly funky, notes of hops, resin, grass and lemon. Taste is bitter hop, resin and hay followed by very balanced malt background. Finish is very smooth. Medium body, medium carbonation

355ml bottle. Pours a clear, orange/caramel with a white, one finger head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is odd with notes of Belgian yeast, candy sugar, bubblegum, resin, and citrus. Taste is a weird bitter sweet. Candy sugar mixed with some pine and resin. Medium aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Resiny in the mouth. Overall an interesting beer but not my thing. Belgian yeast and candy sugar mixed with big resiny hops.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a bright amber orange with a thick off-white mousse-like head. Sulphury yeasty nose with a hint of bubble gum. Dryish toasted malt and bitter citrus hops upfront. Complex spicy hop mid-taste. Notes of tropical fruit, lemon peel and cardamom. Bitter dry finish with notes of grapefruit peel and crushed black pepper. What we have here is a hybrid of a Belgian-style golden ale and an American-style IPA. Flying Dog pulls this off with flying collars!

Kita (993) - Koper, SLOVENIA - JUL 12, 2014
Bottle, 0.355l. Clear amber color with medium creamy off-white head, good lacing and soft visible carbonation. Aroma of citrus, pine, yeast, banana and cheese. Taste starts with sparkling grainy and caramel malt, follows by spicy yeast, sour fruitiness and heavy bitterness from start to finish. Full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Initial raging bitterness mellows a bit, but it’s still real IP-A-like with alcohol completely hidden in taste and aroma...

Pours a crystal clear amber with a minimal white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of malt, toasty caramel, marshmallow and spice. Those all carry over to the taste, and combine with the hops and flowers to give a distinct molasses note. The bitterness begins to come through as it warms a bit. Nice medium mouth that coats the tongue without being too oily. This isn’t something I would drink frequently, but it’s a really nice change of pace IPA.

Lots of layers of flavor in this Beeritch. I love that every sip has a different layer to it with both hops and and fruits and Belgian layers emerging throughout the palate. I'm a fan. Not a raging fan. But a fan. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bronze color, off-white head. nose is slight caramel and more noticeable bubblegum from the malt. plenty of spice in the aroma as well. flavor has more caramel than bubblegum from the malts, but there is good amount of bitterness, pine and citrus from the hops. finish is longer than i expected and pleasant. flying dog did well.

A mostly clear golden color with medium white head. Aroma a combination of yeast and herbal hops. Medium full body. Minimal alcohol. A little carbonation. Flavor is on the bitter side, with grassy and citrus hops. Pretty much IPA-like, with a little yeast and esters in the background.
