COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

the color is a bit more light orange and the head is both big and sticking around. The smell is both hoppy and yeasty. Lots of orange and coriander before the hops come in. Not a ton of malt here. But a very bitter finish. Outstanding lacing. I’m getting more Belgian than IPA, but I like this. I believe I’m a fan of these kind of hybrids in general. Overall, a pretty tasty brew, and it’s nice to see some innovation in the style.

Amber with average head. Sweet with fruity hops. Little pine resin. Creamy malts. Quite sweet and not overly bitter for an IPA. Interesting but maybe a bit too sweet.

Bottle from the Kings Tun JDW, pours a deep orange-amber with a lasting white head, aromas of pine, bitter orange, caramel and a little funky horse blanket. Rich and dry-sweet with a faintly sour and dry bitterness. Spicy funky Saison notes and toffee, more bitter orange and a dry alcohol bite. Fascinating!

Bottle. Clear deep golden colour with quickly falling white head. Aroma hops, orange, orange zest, floral. Caramel in aroma. Taste bitter hops, caramel and maybe some yeast. Alcohol in taste. My expectations from taste based on aroma were higher. Bitter aftertaste. Good one.

12 oz single bottle from Molly’s Spirits. Dark orange and clear appearance with a lingering off-white head. Big, mostly Belgian aroma of banana, bubblegum, earthy yeast, floral notes, light citrus and light peppery spice. Similar flavor, with medium to heavy bitterness balanced by light caramel malts. Medium to full body. Not very balanced, kind of hard to drink.

355 litre bottle, poured into La Chouffe tulip. A: Bronze, clear, one finger head, decent amount of lacing, lively looking. S: Yeast and phenols took on and beat the hops. T: Followed the nose, started out with some wheaty sweetness which gave way to hoppy bitterness, this was followed by some gummibear and finally gave way to some heavy diacetyl. M: Smooth, decent carbonation, medium to thick body and texture, slight boozy burn on the lips. O: Combined the characteristics one of the stronger pale Leffe offerings with SNPA, did a pretty good job.

Color ámbar anaranjado. Algo turbia. Espuma reducida. Aroma muy intenso a naranja amarga y cointreau. Bastante cuerpo con fuerte sabor a naranja. Final muy amargo y duradero, en medio de un tono alcohólico potente pero bien equilibrado. Diferente.
