COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

Nice beer for my 100th rating. Draught. Dark golden-orange body, with an average white head that diminishes slowly, leaving a good lace. Some tropical aromas, orange being present, I think. Very nice medium to heavy bitter taste, some yeast too, I think, with a medium bitter aftertaste. Medium carbonated, oily texture, medium body. A nice IPA.

Transfer from BA review on 3-2-13- Poured from glass into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a medium amber color with a one finger white head. The head fades relatively fast to leave a good level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is big of herbal and citrus grapefruit hops. Mixed with these are lighter notes of a bready smells as well as some faint tropical fruit aromas of pineapple and mango as well as some flavors of a bubblegum like smell. Taste- The taste begins with a bready quite malty flavor. Mixed with these flavors there are some flavors of a mango and tangerine sweetness. There is also a hop flavor of a more herbal nature in the initial tastes that bring a moderate hop flavor to the tongue. As the taste advances the fruit flavors remain relatively constant while the hop flavor grow more intense with a grapefruit flavor soon overwhelming the herbal and becoming the dominant hop flavor. At around this time a light yeasty flavor also comes to the tongue. In the end this grapefruit hop is rather potent, but in many ways, fits the tropical fruit flavors rather well to leaves a nice bitter and fruity flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the creamier and thicker side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. Both are very nice for the style and match the hop and fruit/malt profile nicely. Overall – This is a fairly nice yet easily drinkable imperial IPA with a good blend of hop and fruit flavors.

Not a bad Belgium style IPA. Coming from the east coast. 8.3. Good enough flavor for potency.

Bottle from red elephant truro. Pours hazy orange with just off white head. Looks lovely. Aroma orange, spice, hops, pine and yeast. Tastes great. Orange, piney resin, malt and hops. Nice balanced bitterness with spicey aftertaste. Love this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Kris Wines, Aug 2014. Bottles of this have varied over the years - in the past have had batches with a hoppier, more resiny hit. Aroma on this batch was good - sticky, sweeter malts with piney hops - but the flavour was a bit off. A savoury ’soy sauce’ note, more thinness in body than noted before, and a less pronounced resin hop flavour & mouthfeel. OK but not as super nice as previous bottles I’ve had.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2014 Drunk 18/08/14 with cam at his new flat. pip was up for a romantic evening of hardcore painting so we hit up paradise market on the way for some gogo juice. put in a good shift doing the hallway and had this afterwards on the balcony. straight away you smell the belgian yeast and hops. taste is bitter ipa grapefruit and apricot, against the mellow banana caramel spicy belgian style. it was alright but im not lovin this combo
