Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

Bottle. Pours golden amber with a white, thick but shortly dissipating quickly. Aroma is furniture polish, white/sweet fruits, in particular peach, malt. Flavours are medium to heavy sweetness with a pronounced bitterness. Medium body and a moderate carbonation. In general not unpleasant, but the mix of flavours doesn’t come close to what a good Belgian IPA should be.

Clear amber body. Off-white creamy head. Aroma of caramalts and licht hops. Heavily bitter, moderately sweet flavour. Nog very well balanced.

Prezentacja: bursztynowe, klarowne, piana obfita, ale dosyć szybko opada do kożucha, świetny lacing ;
Aromat: słodki chmielowy owocowy z lekkimi belgijskimi nutami, delikatna skóra, rum ;
Odczucie: treściwe, nisko nasycone, lekki alkohol schowany za goryczką, troszkę zakleja ;
Smak: goryczka, owoce brzoskwini, mango, przypalony karmel, spirytus ;

Bottle at Congress, Longton. Pours amber with a white froth. In your face hop aroma, easy drinking, very hoppy IPA. Not sure about Belgian style, very much a hoppy American IPA.

Pours a copper color with a foamy, long-lasting white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, floral notes, and citrus. Flavor is sweet Belgian yeast and a bite of grapefruit. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours deep Gold with a White head. Aroma is dominated by the Belgian yeast. Banana notes mixed with fresh American hops. The yeast and hops blend together well enough with a sweet malty backbone but the overall concept is one that my brain has difficulty computing. I love Belgian ales and I love IPAs but I’m not sure about this crossover.

Pours a large grothy white head that mostly diminishes. Body is clear yellow orange, spatkles are visible. Aroma contains light malts (cookie, hay, molasses), moderate hops (flowers, pine, citrus fruits), light yeasts (barnyard, leather) and banana, raisin, apple, cherry, forest fruits and vanilla. Flavor is light acodic, then light acidic and light sweet, followed by light acidic and bitter and finishing in dry bitter. Body is medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. IPA with hoppy fruits, but also vanilla and banana from the yeast. Ok. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear amber colour with firm creamy golden/yellow head. Aroma of pineapple (dominates), mango with notes of other tropical fruit. Taste is fruity sweet with dry fruity finish and evident alcoholic presence. Carbonation is low, full body, medium carbonation, hoppy aftertaste with notes of counted fruits. Very good IPA.

To start with check out the amazin artwork by Ralph Steadman. Now, let’s get to the also amazing ale: Pours dark amber with tawny head. Aroma is very intense: Seville oranges, passion fruit, mango, dandelion, pamplemouse, melon, cardamom... Taste is dense and balanced, structured and wide. Very bitter long finish. Best IPA so far.

This was a very good IPA it was smooth and had a nice hoppy note that really came through the malts and left a good mouthfeel on the palate ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
