COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

Bright copper colored in the glass with a brief head, and a pleasant, grassy, citrus aroma. The taste is more complex than I expected, and I enjoyed it a lot. The big hops are present, like in any IPA, but there’s also the fruity, nutty flavors I associate with Belgian ales. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a Belgian style IPA, but after a few sips I was thinking, oh, I get it. I got it, and I liked it.

Pours clear orange with a thick stable white head. Some good lacing on the glass. Beautfiul appearance. Aroma is heavy hoppy with some flowery and fruity (grapfruit) undertones. Some malty tones as well. Bit yeasty too. Pines... Nice, yet a bit atypical. The taste is extremely bitter. I would say a bit too bitter to my likings, but it is somehow amazingly refreshing. A dark, dry bitterness welcomes you, yet it still has that spicy, herbal, peppery and resiny undertone that makes this undescribingly special. The aftertaste if dry, bitterish, fruity and long lasting. The herbal bitterness is beautifully refreshing. Great hop balance as well. Amazingly well-brewed IPA. A true feast of bitter.

The beer pours a nice layer of soft slightly tanned foam. The beer is very clear and has a beautiful orange color. The smell is very intense. The smell is typical IPA. You can smell delicious hops, recognizable nu theorie distinct smell. It smells devine. This heaven like smell comes back in the taste. The beer has s typical IPA taste, perfect citrusy hop flavored, an almost tong twisting bitterness (in a good way) and a refreshing sweetness, to balance out the bitterness. The aromas are in perfect harmony. The perfect mouth sensation contributes to the perfect taste and smell. The CO2 tingles the tongue, a little message for your mouth. This IPA is definitely a world player.

Bottle - 355ml. Amber body with a thin off-white foamy/creamy head. Good hoppy aroma with spicy and banana hints. Its sharp hoppy taste carries woody, yeasty, and fruity notes. Ends with a long bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Helder amber bier met kleine schuimkraag. Goede combi van bittere en fruitige hops met lange bittere nasmaak. Belgisch gist komt er mooi bij en ook wat caramel. Niet te koud drinken ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355ml bottle. Light amber colour with a nice off-white head that quickly turns into a persistent lacing. Fruit, caramel and floral aroma. Average carbonation and medium to light body. Taste is bitter with some fruity notes and long dry finish. Complex. Overall, a very good beer.

Nice! Clear deep amber with a small but persistent creamy head. Medium carbonation. The alcohol is well hidden. Flavor is dominated by the hops and has some licorice frapefuit and resin. Dry bitter finish that’s on the verge of being harsh. A true ipa. Well brewed.

Near clear clean amber body, off white apricot tart cream, lacing with many integrated bubbles. Aroma of caramel malts, dough, apricot, mandarine, fresh fruity inviting. Tastes long hops, malts, whiskey, resin, liquor, roasted resin and bitter caramel. Spirited body. Sticky finish with malt liquor notes. So and so. [33cl btl 8.3%abv 11€, @BlåRock]

14oz on tap at Beer Authority, NY. 8.3%, 60 IBU , 8$. Dark amber color fine white head fruity nose. Aroma of syrupy malts hints of caramel and orange peel, strong hops presence with lots of resins. Complex taste intense bitter finish with fruity overtones and rum, reminded me of Kwak. Excellent and lovely slow-sipper.
