COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

9/1/13 $3.29 bottle from bottle store by M&D. Bought on the recommendation by Doug and opened by mom for some reason. Light orange in color. Good mix of sweetness and hoppyness on both the nose and mouth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle. Clear golden color. Medium size, white head, stays. Sweet, fruity, citrus, hoppy aroma. Aroma is nice. Yeast, spicy hops, slightly papery, herbal notes in taste. Harsh bitterness. Black peppers, spicy notes in aftertaste. Not really pushing my buttons, but it’s decent brew.

Dark golden, off white head. Malt, bit metal in the nose (not so fresh anymore?). Malt richness, hops, bit dry and bitter. Long finish. Bit of fruits in the back, exotic but limited. Ok IPA, Oct 2015 maturity date... Could be fresher.

Bottle 0,355L. Slightly hazy, orange colour with small, light brown, frothy head. Aroma of sweet tropical fruits, pine, resin, brandy, caramel. Taste starts heavy bitter and fruity. A lot of hoppy bitternes, but almost no alcohol feeling. Aftertaste is heavy bitter, too. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finaly, one very bitter beer after long time...

Bottled. Pour into Sam Adams glass; clear golden honey color with a eggshell/cream head. Aroma is a beautiful mix of Belgian spices, lemon, orange, coriander, little bit of some tropical fruits (mango, papaya) and a very nice sort of banana/clove element which balances it out really well and adds a "Belgian" element. Also a hint of bubblegum. Flavor is hoppy, lots of Belgian spices, distinct Belgian yeast strain, some clove, banana, malty honey and caramel notes, and bitter hoppy finish. Full bodied as well. Excellent Belgian IPA.

#200 rated on Ratebeer. Appearance is a dark honey color. Aroma is citrus and pine scents. Some dank and earthy tones in there. Taste is muted citrus hop notes. Palate is good carbonation and mouthfeel. Slightly dry finish. Overall this is a good IPA.

Amber colour beer of an impeccable clarity and a nice, long-lasting head. Aroma is a moderately distinct mixture of belgian yeast notes (here close to pepper or other spices) and tropical fruits - somewhat it resembles dog-rose marmalade or floral bouguet. Taste reflects the same notes as the aroma but its intensity is simply overwhelming. The concoction is sweet, finished with rather short and herbal bitterness that stays in the mouth for a moment right before the fruity-sweet aftertaste comes into play intending to overstay its welcome. Alcohol well hidden. Let’s call a spade a spade - great beer, one of the best of its kind.
