COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

Pours amber with white head. Piney notes on the nose. Flavors are bitter and pretty sweet, but not cloyingly so. Hops flavors are pretty fruity and citrusy. Pretty easy to drink for hop heads.

Bottle. Pours a clear orange amber colour with a fizzy white head. Aroma of mango, grapefruit, apricot, some Belgian yeast, subtle clove and spicy, peppery hops. Taste of grapefruit, mango, apricot, Belgian yeast, resin, very spicy, peppery hops, subtle caramel, raisin and some lemon zest. Full bodied and an oily texture. A long, surprisingly malty, then a hop bitterness in the finish. A really complex IPA which is full of flavour. I really like this, a different take on a classic IPA.

Dunkelrot braun, fast wie Cola. Schnell zerfallender Schaum. Aroma ist vielversprechend: Karamell, Holz, Butteraroma. Geschmack: Malzig süß, karamell, etwas getrocknete Früchte, Sherry. Abgerundet durch eine leichte Bitternote. Tolles Bier!

Love this one. Similar to Stone’s Calibelgique, Houblon Chouffe by d’Achouffe, and also Hopsinjoor from Het Anker. This one has a distinct dry bitter palate and finish, but the sweet sweet candy flavor mixed with the big up front ipa is really cool. Definitely something that needs to be revisited now and then.

Pours clear orange with a thick stable white head. Some good lacing on the glass. Beautfiul appearance. Aroma is heavy hoppy with some flowery and fruity (grapfruit) undertones. Some malty tones as well. Bit yeasty too. Pines... Nice, yet a bit atypical. The taste is extremely bitter. I would say a bit too bitter to my likings, but it is somehow amazingly refreshing. A dark, dry bitterness welcomes you, yet it still has that spicy, herbal, peppery and resiny undertone that makes this undescribingly special. The aftertaste if dry, bitterish, fruity and long lasting. The herbal bitterness is beautifully refreshing. Great hop balance as well. Amazingly well-brewed IPA. A true feast of bitter.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2015 The beer pours a nice layer of soft slightly tanned foam. The beer is very clear and has a beautiful orange color. The smell is very intense. The smell is typical IPA. You can smell delicious hops, recognizable nu theorie distinct smell. It smells devine. This heaven like smell comes back in the taste. The beer has s typical IPA taste, perfect citrusy hop flavored, an almost tong twisting bitterness (in a good way) and a refreshing sweetness, to balance out the bitterness. The aromas are in perfect harmony. The perfect mouth sensation contributes to the perfect taste and smell. The CO2 tingles the tongue, a little message for your mouth. This IPA is definitely a world player.
