4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 willblake (2601) - Bel Air, USA - FEB 5, 2010
20100205 12oz bottle during Snowmageddon 2010. If this is going to be my last beer ever, I guess I’d be okay with that. Attractive medium amber color with thin but sticky, fine white head. Aroma is pungent with huge hops and yeast, the Amarillos in this case taking over in a great way. The beer is intensely reminiscent of a dank Aussie Sauvignon Blanc, including cut grass and running a fine line between ripe grapefruit and garlicy thiols, also juicy tropical fruits. Perhaps not refined, but definitely one of the most enticing and interesting aromas I’ve come across in some time. Body is a slight disappointment if only because I wanted more. It’s not quite as dry as I’d like, with the yeast bringing a nice peppery feel, but the hops not providing an accompanying dryness that would really bring it all together like a great rug. what? Flavor is right in line with aromas up front, but becomes briefly bland across the middle of the sip. Finish is peppery and bitter but, as mentioned, not quite as dry as it seems it should be. Instead, there’s a slight but lingering medicinal note, a bit of menthol. Alcohol presence is felt mostly with temp, but it is a bit more harsh than seems necessary. Overall, this beer has shocked me with its complexity, and accessibility. Others have approached the style, but I think this one brings a more definitive American flair with the bold Amarillo presence, and it helps that the price is under nine bucks a six pack. Now couldn’t they have pulled this off with a 4.5-5.5 percent beer? The only thing that is going to keep me from buying a lot of this stuff is the high ABV.

Pours a light copper with perfect head. A floral aroma is well known with other notes of hops, earth tones, grass and lemon. Well rounded hops and Belgian yeast. A tad bitter with some coffee aftertaste. Great beer!

Bottle. Smell of GRASS, hops, and citrus. Excellent complexity in the taste. It has a lot of hop kick accompanied by good bitterness. It also is creamy and finishes with a sweet syrupyness that doesn’t come around very often. Good blend of Belgian styles and an IPA.

35,5cl bottle at Café Laundromat, Oslo. Pours deep golden with a small white head. Hoppy fruity and malty aroma with citrus, hints of trpocal fruits, caramel and Belgian yeast. Lightly sweet with a nice, quite dry finish. Well balanced and very pleasant. (2012-05-26)

(bottle). A cross between a fine Belgian ale and an IPA and the best of both. Light amber complexion with long-lasting head. Lots of flavor from Belgian yeast and distinct hop signature. Velvety smooth palate. A wonderful beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mutz (127) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 24, 2012
Heldere amberkleur.

12oz bottle. Slight orange, clear. Really interesting aroma. The phenols and spices from hoeg. but backed with assertive hops. I really enjoy the belgian in this one. But there is a lot of bitterness and green hops. A weird mixture, but imo worth trying. Like mixing fanta and cola, youve got to try it once at least.

Hopheads delight. This isn’t a Belgian-Style, no matter what the label says. Medium amber with a nice ring head and spotty lace. The taste does begin with caramel malt, but it is so quickly dominated by the pine hops that it hardly matters. Not as strong as some IPAs, but as dominant as it gets. Not enough interest for me.
