1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Would have gotten a 4 for appearance, but it’s got a dumbass label, thanks to Flying Dog’s disturbed marketing advisors. Stinky cascade hops tea. Thin, boring.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Malty in that inimitable Scottish roasted caramel way, not much hops. One of my favorite beers, with extra appearance points for Ralph Steadman.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A deep dark red. Thin head. Scottish malt and light chocolate nose. Nice smooth malts with a light touch of smokiness and chocolate. A bit of a carbonation bite at the end. A pretty damn good brew. It has a nice mixture of porter and scottish ale qualities. Very drinkable and light on the palate, so you can enjoy a few.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
nice dark color, head is not as strong as several other porters (listed as a scottish porter on label). Not as strong in the alcohol as say a McEwans, some underlying complexity. A very drinkable brew but there are other choices I would prefer.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nice aroma: cinnamon and coffee. Redish black in color, no head. Roasted flavor, somewhat like a porter, with many different spices prevalent. However, something didn’t hit me just right with this. Its not that it was too light; it was just too unbalanced.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Surprisingly light beer for the style and dark color. Smoky smell, and slight chocolate taste. Also picked up a roasted taste as well. Very enjoyable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 1, 2004 Dark brown color, nice fizzy off-white head that leaves a good lacing in my glass, roasty chocolate and caramel aromas. Roasted sweet chocolate flavors, some smokiness, decent roasted bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with a somewhat watery mouthfeel, the best of the three I have tried from this brewery so far.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Decent looking porter on the pour. Faint smokey maltiness. Light in body for a Scottish influenced ale.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice looking beer, cola-ish with a good head. Maltiness & fruitiness in the aroma. Malty & anise flavor. Moderate body, not as thin as others have complained. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Unusual flavor, but overall a decent beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
dark brown amber color. very rich malty flavor more like a sottish ale going down with a hint of porter after taste. not to shabby of a beer
