Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

Bottle 355ml. Poured dark ruby brown (almost black) with a good sized, dense, foamy, lightly tanned head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of roasted malts with dark chocolate, toast, coffee, raisins and some nuts. Flavor was a medium earthy hop bitterness with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, toast, black coffee, currents, light notes of plum and a dry finish. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry toasty mouthfeel and a decent length finish.

Bottle. Brown with quickly dying off-white head. Expected darker. Did not get much aroma. Very light flavor, not too bitter, actually sweet. Watered down palate with carbonation. Did not seem like a porter to me. Flying Dog must put most of their porter muscle into Gonzo Imperial, which is awesome.

Pours brown with ruby notes, small tan head. Nose is some roasted malt, mild cocoa and coffee, bubblegum, mild fruit notes. Flavor is sharp hop bite, some anise, cocoa, bitter coffee, roasted malt, sweet fruit and diacetyl. 666th rating! Raining Blood Muzak Midi style ROCKS!

Bottle, bought at the bierkoning in Amsterdam. Nice clear mahogany with a light grey head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Taste is more of the same along with notes of chocolate, caramel and some peat/smoke. Moderately sweet and roasty finish. Medium thin body with subtle carbonation. No lacing or head retention. Ok.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a large tan head. It has a nice roasted taste, a strong taste of chocolate and a slight espresso taste. This is very good in my opinion but not what I was expecting in a porter.

04-OCT-2009, Bottle @home. Very light in colour for at porter. Brown, with high almost white head. roasted, but not very bitter. A bit watery, but overall a nice beer, just not a porter in my book.
