Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

Sampled at EBF2008. Pours a dark brown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is sweetness and raisin. The flavor is roasted and sweetness. The mouthfeel leaves some hops, and the beer is just above average.

Bottle.Dark ruby looking pour, with a thin dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate coffee and something burnt . Flavor is malty, earthy, and smokey with a slight dry alcohol finish. Thin watery mouthfeel. This was sort of an odd offering,Drinkable but most likely will not buy again.

Really pissed off that they didn’t package this in my variety pack after its picture is clearly on the box, so it gets a failure across the board from me. This isn’t the first time that Flying Dog has screwed me on a variety pack, either- I got two tripels and no barleywines in a variety four-pack a few months ago. Thanks for the false advertising, assholes!

Bottle: pours a jet black color. Smoked malt, toffee aroma. Taste is similar and primarily of smoked/roasted malt with not much sweetness. A slight toffe and coffee flavor sneaks in. Nice dryness at the end. Good, hearty beer.

Firkin @ DuClaw Real Ale Festival. Brown pour with a light tan head. Light carbonation. Bread-like aroma with no hops aroma. Semi sweet body, some molasses and chocolate. Smoother than from a bottle.

Poured an opaque dark brown. Aroma was a lot of roasted malts and sweetness. Flavor was smooth. this was an easy beer to drink. Nothing terribly complex, but a really nicely crafted porter.

(Bottle). Roasty malt aroma, touch of sweetness. Color is very dark brown, with a small tan head. Interesting taste profile, with distinct roastiness and smoke, along with malted sweetness, followed by a prolonged malty finish. And yes, the body is a bit thin.
