Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA May 14, 2008 Smooth low carbonated Porter that I simply can’t detected all of the hinted licorice and ’peaty malt’ that others note.
To me, it’s simply a drinkable American porter that can be consumed again at leisure. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA May 12, 2008 Pours a deep mahogany with a creamy, beige head that laces nicely. The nose is a blend of caramel and chocolate malt notes with a touch of peaty malt in the background. Light to medium-bodied and slick with tongue-scrubbing fine carbonation and a lightly dry, roasty finish. The flavor follows the nose with a light fruity note added to the caramel and chocolate malt. I’m fairly surprised to see this one rated so lowly. I haven’t been overly impressed by most of Flying Dog’s lower gravity brews, but this one is fairly tasty and easy-drinking. While it might not be among my top choices for a locally available porter, I would drink it again. yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 11, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours black with a huge and creamy light tan head. Cornish and caramel malt aroma. Flavour is mildly roasted, vague berry fruity note and a mild caramel flavour. Something for a porter - not with flaws - it is just not interesting. Mild roasted finish with more toasted caramel flavours. KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark May 11, 2008 Mahogany with medium off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with light notes of roasted malt and caramel. Sweet flavor with mild notes of roasted malt, caramel and liquerice. Ends sweet. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA May 8, 2008 Pours dark mahogany with ruby highlights and brilliant clarity. Chocolaty in the nose with some smokey malt qualities in flavor, almost burnt. Not a favorite. dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 8, 2008 Bottle from a sampler from Harris Teeter Barracks Charlottesville. Pours adark amber with good retention for a small head. Roasted malt aroma with a weird off taste. Creamy coffee burnt taste with a strong grainy feel. Drinkable but not very good. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA May 5, 2008 Pours a hazy brown or dark maroon with a small off white head. Smells alot of dark fruits, sweet sugars, and dark syrupy malts. The mouthfeel was medium to light bodied. Flavors consisted of dark sweet malts, a little caramel, sweet dark fruits, and the smallest touch of some vanilla. I wouldnt exactly put this in the porter category, as it really doesnt taste like one at all. Although its pretty drinkable, it certainly doesnt excite, and almost certainly is misclassified. Theis (3617), Denmark May 5, 2008 Bottle at ØLbaren - thanks to Nikolaj. Dark brown - offwhite head. Roasted, wet dog, licorice, caramel, straw, hay, light grainy. Not a porter !!!
