Really liked this one. I want to try the Imperial porter and see how that improves. I’d buy this one again. Probablay in the variety pack though. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Pours a dark ruby brown. No head really. Nose is caramel, malty, sweet from the very start but then relaxes to a mild woody character with a slight sweet tone to it. Flavor is thick with a malty, woody, caramel, sweetness...but it just doesn’t provide much character. There is a little something there, but not enough to make it supremely interesting. Feel is decent on the liquid, though at times I feel like it gets a bit watery. Overall very drinkable. It is smooth, yes. It just lacks any great level of finesse. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 30, 2008 Thanks to my Secret Santa (aknud) for the bottle. Clear mahogany with a small head. Aroma is dark malt, molasses and chocolate with some fresh bread. Sweet taste with a good amount of bitter hops. Medium body. Bitter finish. Goodgrief (1148), Middletown, Delaware, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 30, 2008 May 2006 - Beer poured darkish brown with small head and no lacing. Flavor was roasty and watery. REALLY thin. Completely unremarkable. It wasn’t offensive, that’s about the most I can say about this. Thankfully, my dad drank the other bottle from my regrettable Flying Dog mixed 12 pack so I don’t have to subject myself to this again. rustbucket0873 (145), Krikville, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Dark-Reddish with frothy head. Carmel and malt roast aromas. Carmel malt, mild hop balance. Smooth and well balanced. beerheart (237), Erie, Colorado, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 28, 2008 This was a nice porter, but nothing special. It isn’t any maltier than numerous other porters that I’ve had. And the tastes of chocolate and coffee that one expects in a porter are present in abundance. MrRain (426), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2008 12oz bottle poured in a tulip glass. FDRDSP pours black as ink with a piddley little head. The aroma heavy on the malt and sweet liquor. Chocolate and butterscotch can be detected as well. This is a very aromatic beer. The body is surprisingly carbonated and light. The taste is a complete surprise as well. The first thing you taste is a sourness that made me initially think I got a bad beer. After that quick jolt comes a harsh baker’s chocolate flavor tempered with malt. I think this beer misses its potential. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Dark, clear ruby color shows from light shining through. Appears brown from a distance with a fizzy brown head that rapidly disappears. The body is ok, but a little weak for a porter. A decent roasted flavor does come through making it worthwile.
