Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

Headless dark pour. Chocolate aroma. Flavor is chocolate bitterness. There is another note here which I wouldn’t necessarily call licorice (like in the commercial description) as I know it, however I can’t think of a better word to describe it. Otherwise fairly average.

From a bottle. Dark pour that looks nice but that is about all the excitement I got out of it.

Dark-Reddish with frothy head. Carmel and malt roast aromas. Carmel malt, mild hop balance. Smooth and well balanced.

Nice beer. Not the most astounding beer ever made, but enjoyable, nice pour, nice color and aroma. Good drink. Relaxing on a cold night.

Bottle from my beer club. Poured a nice deep caramel-brown color with a thin and quickly-dissipating tan head. Aroma is somewhat sweet, like soda. Taste is slightly malt, slightly smoke, and a whole lot of nothing. Finish was non-existent. This was a total drain pour for me and another miss from Flying Dog.

A bottle from a Christmas variety pack. It poured a dark brown almost like a cola. There was a thin head that disappeared quickly. The aroma again reminded me of a cola. It had a bit of a smokey flavor. It seemed a bit watery or thin to me not much flavor or much of a finish

Dark brown to black porter poured with a slight white head. Slight aroma of malt. Buscuity malt flavor and finishes dry. This was actually one of my cross over beers after Fat Tire. Haven’t had it in years. A decent beer.

This is probably my favorite Flying Dog beer, which isn’t much of a compliment. Nice, smoky flavors with chocolate tones. Nice appearance, though the head was minimal and disappeared quickly.
