Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

Bottle from my beer club. Poured a nice deep caramel-brown color with a thin and quickly-dissipating tan head. Aroma is somewhat sweet, like soda. Taste is slightly malt, slightly smoke, and a whole lot of nothing. Finish was non-existent. This was a total drain pour for me and another miss from Flying Dog.

A bottle from a Christmas variety pack. It poured a dark brown almost like a cola. There was a thin head that disappeared quickly. The aroma again reminded me of a cola. It had a bit of a smokey flavor. It seemed a bit watery or thin to me not much flavor or much of a finish

Dark brown to black porter poured with a slight white head. Slight aroma of malt. Buscuity malt flavor and finishes dry. This was actually one of my cross over beers after Fat Tire. Haven’t had it in years. A decent beer.

This is probably my favorite Flying Dog beer, which isn’t much of a compliment. Nice, smoky flavors with chocolate tones. Nice appearance, though the head was minimal and disappeared quickly.

Bottled. Poured clear garnety brown with a short cap of deep beige head. The aroma picked up an odd, rather overriding blend of smoke, molasses, and vegetal mash over darker chocolates and licorice.. not entirely off-putting, but by no means enjoyable. The flavor had tacky caramel, chocolate, and licorice on the less-than-substantial base.. toasted grains and light smoke overhead.. enjoyable chocolate and caramel on the short-ish finish.. some rising pine and citrusy bitterness, especially on the back-end.. overall a weak porter, but not bad. A little shy of medium-bodied.. tacky at times.. rising bitterness on the back.. OK balance. This was drinkable, but not much better.

Dark brown color with some roasted malt on the nose. Some roasted malt flavor but not alot. A tad weak for my taste but this would be great for someone who is afraid of dark beers.

From a bottle. Pours a brown color with small head. Aroma is of faint coffee and chocolate. Tastes of small amounts of dark malts and some hops to balance things out. Little thin in the mouthfeel. Not much complexity but still an enjoyable brew.

Pours dark brown, almost copper with brown head. Has an initial bite with tasty malts and then a bitter finish. Pretty smooth and not too complex. Quite drinkable. I would buy it again.
