Dec 17, 2007 Really dark brown color with a tan head. Chocolate and coffee aroma... didn’t really get the abbey double smell that some people talked about. Thick enough body but still easy to drink and it definitely warms you up... I had it when I was really cold a few times. Not particularly complex, but what is there is good... with the roasted malts and molasses flavors.

Dec 14, 2007 Brown color, lingering amber head. Dark malt, iced tea, and apice aroma. Robust and tasty for this alcohol, with nice flavors of bitter chocolate, slight pepper spice, smoke, molassas, coffee. I’ve always found this a tasty, easy drinking brew.

Dec 14, 2007 Bottle@Home. Blackberries, blackcurrant and chocolate aroma. Very dark brown color, light brown head, fair lace. Very fruity, blackberries, red berries, some roastiness and bitterness in the finish. Sparkling with a dry finish. OK beer but more like a Abbey Dubbel with porter notes than really a porter.

Dec 12, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark brown. No head when it was poured. For a porter it was a little thick. Had some chocolate and and maybe a hint of brown sugar. Finish was slightly bitter due to some grass hops. Not the best flying dog but an enjoyable one.

Dec 12, 2007 Wine nose right off the bat giving way to licorice and dried fruit. No really sense of chocolate and very little head. Cola colored. Very fruity taste... dried cherries, prunes, hint of semi-sweet chocolate. Very interested. Cheers!

Dec 11, 2007 About average all the way around. Not a lot of aroma. Nice looking dark brown. Flavor is roasted malt. I didn’t notice the licorice or chocolate they claim is there. Watery palate. Lots better out there.

Dec 9, 2007 Poured from the bottle dark brown. Looked flat. Tasted it to make sure and it still tasted fresh, but there was literally no head when I poured it. Maybe it was a bad bottle. Anyhow, it wasn’t that bad. Syrupy texture to the beer, with hints of chocolate and licorice. Finish was slightly bitter. I wouldn’t be able to drink a lot of these in a row but I could definitely enjoy one of these every now and then during the holidays.
