JohnBruns (32), USA Oct 13, 2007 Dark brown with a tan head that doesn’t last long. Has a sweet almost fruity flavor with a burt overtone, not at all what I expected. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 10, 2007 Updated: Oct 23, 2009In short: Original fruity porter. Enjoyable.
How: Bottle, fresh
The look: Very dark brown body with a short-lived tan head
In long: Burnt toasts, molasses and black liquorice topped by an unexpected array of fruits (berries, tropical fruits and such). Pretty under-hopped. Feels somewhat full, sweet and sticky for such a small beer. Rather atypical for a porter but its originality is what I like about it. Nice original doggy, a golden retriever with a poodle haircut.
ChetLemmons (87), orlando, Florida, USA Oct 9, 2007 brown/reddish with slight brown head. aroma was raspberry chocolate, with a hint of coffee. medium body, not too carbonated, goes down smooth, with a bit of an after bite. not a bad beer, but not impressive. best of the flying dog so far, but only 3 in at time of rating... BelgianBeerGal (1276), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Oct 8, 2007 Bottle poured into pint glass. Pours a very opaque brown colour with a tan head that dissolves into a film. Aroma is mostly alcohol with a hint of sweet chocolate. Slight coffee in the flavour. Average porter. Bcoble003 (100), Dalton, Ohio, USA Oct 6, 2007 not much of a smell but thats good in some ways. tastes of a thick coffee taste not much after that. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Oct 4, 2007 Bottle. Pours root beer brown with a fluffy tan head. Aroma of licorice, vanilla and caramel, with a taste to match. Medium body and light carbonation. A little salty on the finish. The brewer claims "hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts," but I’m betting the heavy hints of licorice come from licorice. An INTERESTING interpretation of the style. fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 3, 2007 Fairly dark pour. Wasn’t labeled as a porter when I had it (Spring 2005). Was at Classic city brew fest as "Scotish ale". Chocolate and caramel. Heavy body. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2007 Wow is this extremely bad. This must be a bad bottle because there is no way this is supposed to taste like this. Aroma was faint, but could pick up roasted malt. Pour was a dark burnt brown with a one finger off white head. Taste was like water. I mean there was little taste at all. Could pick up some caramel, some licorice and not much else. Those flavors were faint and barely came through the carbonation.Blah.
