| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 4, 2007 Bottle. Pours root beer brown with a fluffy tan head. Aroma of licorice, vanilla and caramel, with a taste to match. Medium body and light carbonation. A little salty on the finish. The brewer claims "hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts," but I’m betting the heavy hints of licorice come from licorice. An INTERESTING interpretation of the style. fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2007 Fairly dark pour. Wasn’t labeled as a porter when I had it (Spring 2005). Was at Classic city brew fest as "Scotish ale". Chocolate and caramel. Heavy body. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

This must be a bad bottle because there is no way this is supposed to taste like this. Aroma was faint, but could pick up roasted malt. Pour was a dark burnt brown with a one finger off white head. Taste was like water. I mean there was little taste at all. Could pick up some caramel, some licorice and not much else. Those flavors were faint and barely came through the carbonation.Blah. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 30, 2007 I love this porter. This is my current bread & butter beer that I’ll have day in and day out. The aroma and the flavor are malty and balanced with enough bitterness to make this a smooth, easily drinkable beer to accompany a strongly flavored dinner. This shall find a place in my refrigerator for a long time. Derek881 (493), Frederick, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 24, 2007 A good, but not exceptional porter that I sampled at the Wild Goose brewery in Frederick. The aroma was malty, with some roasty chocolate and caramel tones, but not well defined. It had a dark color, not quite black, with a small light tan head. The taste was mostly sweet and malty, with a touch of ale-like hop bitterness. Mostly dry and a touch thin on the palate, with a light mouthfeel and low to average carbonation. A decent porter beer, but completely overwhelmed compared to the Flying Dog Imperial Porter I also had. LeRay (17), Louisiana, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 23, 2007 Had this beer on 4/10/1999. Color is very dark deep brown, with good carbonation and head. Aroma is a rich sweet malt and hop scent. Taste is rich and strong. It starts with a medium body that goes down heavy with a rich malt feel. Finish is a somewhat sharp sweet malt taste that is the norm for a Scottish Ale, followed by a nice hop bitterness and light hop flavor. This is a good porter with nice Scottish attributes.
