blklab2007 (943), Connecticut, USA Sep 17, 2007 bottle labeled road dog porter not Scottish porter, same label otherwise. beer poured a red black in color that can be seen through in the light with a ruby red color. smell is lots of malts, roasted beans, and licorice. taste is malted, has a slight metallic flavor, and a slight roasted hint. beer is overall on the weak side for the style, nothing really jumped out at me to spark an interest. nothing really wrong with the beer it is like something Saranac would brew. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 16, 2007 Dark almost black pour with very little head. very malty smell. Very sweet malty taste. Smooth and warming. I thought this was much better than it was rated sneezey (110), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA Sep 15, 2007 Very dark brown color but not really opaque and no head at all. Malt aroma but far less strong that you would expect given the style and color. Almost no start to the taste at all, surprisingly lacking in anything at all that lets the alcohol creep in a second. Then the roasty malty comes through but all too subtle a taste. The flavor is actually a quite nice solid grain but all too weak with the hops absent. Not weak in the sense that it’s bad, but weak in intensity when you really expect that from the style. More like a malty brown ale, just turned down more notches than it should be. Not really bad, just disappointingly absent. Turn up the notch on this one guys! From a variety back from the Frederick MD location. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA Sep 11, 2007 Pours a clear dark brown with a small head. There were some light hints of coffee and malt. The flavor was very thin and rather weak. I was expecting more being a fan of the Gonzo, but this was a big disappointment. BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Sep 9, 2007 THE BEER IS REFRESHING. as porters now go it is light in body. the flavors are of licorice and chocolate. these flavors are recessed and seem washed out some. there is really no smokey scottish flavor essence here. appropriate since this appears to be a schwartzbier. i would like to see this brew tweaked a little since it surely has potential. smashteroid (227), USA Sep 8, 2007 12 oz. bottle served cold. pours dark brown with a tan-colored head. sweet aroma featured hints of chocolate. the flavor was roasted malts and maybe a hint of coffee. a pretty good beer, but certainly not the best flying dog has to offer. pamoja (57), Rochester, New York, USA Sep 2, 2007 The best porter I have ever had. Very carbonated with good healthy head. Rich dark color. Delish!!! tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 1, 2007 nice amount of tan foam, dark dark brown almost black, nose i for some reason get pear. smokey flavor, roasty a little thin but very nice, with a good smoked stack of rips.
