Fruity, berry aroma with hints of chocolate and roastiness. Watery palate. Chocolate covered fruit taste with some roasty notes but overall taste is not as robust as I wanted. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 18, 2007 Poured very dark with a thick head. Nice malty aroma of licorice and molasses. Taste was a very pleasant rich malt. The flavor was nicely balanced and the malt wasn’t overwhelming or too sweet. Very smooth and clean finish. Underrated by reviewers. blklab2007 (955), Connecticut, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 17, 2007 bottle labeled road dog porter not Scottish porter, same label otherwise. beer poured a red black in color that can be seen through in the light with a ruby red color. smell is lots of malts, roasted beans, and licorice. taste is malted, has a slight metallic flavor, and a slight roasted hint. beer is overall on the weak side for the style, nothing really jumped out at me to spark an interest. nothing really wrong with the beer it is like something Saranac would brew. grandet (479), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 15, 2007 Very dark brown color but not really opaque and no head at all. Malt aroma but far less strong that you would expect given the style and color. Almost no start to the taste at all, surprisingly lacking in anything at all that lets the alcohol creep in a second. Then the roasty malty comes through but all too subtle a taste. The flavor is actually a quite nice solid grain but all too weak with the hops absent. Not weak in the sense that it’s bad, but weak in intensity when you really expect that from the style. More like a malty brown ale, just turned down more notches than it should be. Not really bad, just disappointingly absent. Turn up the notch on this one guys! From a variety back from the Frederick MD location. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Sep 11, 2007 Pours a clear dark brown with a small head. There were some light hints of coffee and malt. The flavor was very thin and rather weak. I was expecting more being a fan of the Gonzo, but this was a big disappointment.
