The score was calculated based upon the notes and an old scoring system.
troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Aug 28, 2007 (Bottle) Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma of molasses, caramel and smooth spices. Taste is similar, with some cocoa and other dark malty notes. Average mouthfeel, and good lacing. Could have had a fuller palate, but otherwise a pretty good beer. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Aug 26, 2007 lots of carmel, peanuts, scotch, butterscotch, and milk chocolate. thin but smooth with some toffee and toasted malt. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Aug 24, 2007 Something about this beer rubbed me the wrong way. The licorice and spearmint vegetal note just throws this off. UselessGdTaste (363), Long Beach, California, USA Aug 24, 2007 This beer is far under rated. Great porter in a remarkably subtle way. The chocolate and nutty depth really shows while still remaining refreshing. There is a great scottish ale aftertaste that comes right at the end. Mrthirstyneck (341), Minnesota, USA Aug 24, 2007 weak from what i recall not gros just nothing complex at all just a brown blah flavor nothing great here will try again
! Speedle (262), Mid-Atlantic (Tour 2007-2008), Virginia, USA Aug 24, 2007 very dark brown with a thin dark tan head....malts and light aroma of dark bitter chocolate....head is gone in about 8 seconds....some carmel in the aroma...medium mouthfeel... nutty taste with some black jelly beans and roasted malts....finishes wirh a black coffee aftertaste... I enjoyed this brew...rating reflects me.....I think it is under rated. wilderthanyou (410), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Aug 23, 2007 Not a great scotish porter, but not bad. Pours a dark dark brown with a thin white head. It lacks a strong aroma, it’s basically just light malty sweetness. The flavour is pretty good with some notes of caramel and chocolate, and a really good black licorice finish. What sorta of kills this beer in the porter department is the thin watery palate, I really feel if the mouthfeel wasn’t so thin and the aroma so weak that this beer would atleast average around a 4.0.
