Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

This beer pored very dark brown but not black. Very malty with hints of a smokey flavor and licorice. Finshed smooth but a bit waterey. Still a very good porter.

12 oz bottle out of variety pack. Dark ruby color but not totally opaque, whiter head than I think a porter should have, still aroma and taste were very good. Porters to me are the merlots of beer, just one step behind the cabernets (stouts), and this could use a bit more body, as was previously mentioned. Still I have a hard time rating any porter badly, and this is no exception.

Poured a ruby color with a white head that diminished quickly. Taste was malty scotch ale sweet with more roasted flavors present as the beer warmed. For a porter the beer was watery, and could stand to be a little thicker.

[Bottle, thanks Guerde] Poured light brown with small tan head. Aroma was pretty weak, but good. Not much roast until the end and pretty watery mouthfeel. Not the best, but I could drink a few of these.

Had been keeping my eyes out for this for a while, finally came across a bottle. Decent Aroma. Appearance was weak, looked more like a brown ale than a porter. Flavor was decent, has one major flavor component (I"m sure a homebrewer familiar with all grain brewing could name it) keeping it from being very complex. On a good note it was a decent flavor with a hint of licorice. Watery mouthfeel. Overall drinkable if you think of it as a nice brown ale, disappointing as a porter. It wasn’t what I was hoping it would be.

From bottle pours a nice rich brown with a little bit of head. Nice smokey flavor with a nice aftertaste.

Pours a deep brown color, almost, but not quite black. Aroma is a malt symphony, though wisps of smoke seem to flutter upwards. Aroma is more redolent of a Scotch ale, but I coul be wrong. Flavor is malty and rich, but teh body is way to light for my liking. Bit of a let down...

Pours dark brown/black with an enormous billowing head. The biggest head I have ever seen for the style. (perhaps the bottle was shaken or agitated?) Roasted notes dominate the nose, with touches of chocolate, toffee, and toasted mocha. There is also a subtle hint of sour/spice underlying the aroma. It begins with toasted malty toffee flavors but quickly devlopes a spicy, dry twang which I can only explain by saying that is exemplary of the Scottish style. There is a light smokeyness on the finish and a not unpleasent dry puckering effect. A lighter bodied brew which is easily drinkable.
