pojo41 (315), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jun 30, 2007 Bottle. To me this beer had nearly no aroma. I really liked it’s appearance. Dark brown with ruby tint when held to the light. Flavor of slightly sweet, dark roasted malt. Mouthfeel was pretty thin as was the head and lacing. There are better porters out there but, this one is drinkable. Might make a good gateway beer for aspiring porter drinkers. Glazed9884 (207), USA Jun 30, 2007 xxx gotta love flying dog, fun brewery, cool names and bottles so that even if the brew isnt great its still fun to drink. gotta love porters too, not the best porter, but very drinkable Dacrza (245), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Jun 29, 2007 With the last "porterish" day before summer actually kicks in upon me, I rate this from a 12-pack sampler...chocolate-vanilla notes adorn a mocha-soda tint with flatlining head and zero lacing... like experiencing a cologne bottle...malty punch... obtrusive, almost as "no shit" as Flying Dog provokes on its label...a too smooth (oily?) sharpness to the mouth...overall, not a bad porter but among the second hundred I’d reach for, and a far cry from their Imperial offering, Hunter be damned...flat soda indeed... Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 28, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Okbeer: Poured a light dark color porter with a medium light brown foamy head with average retention. Aroma of dry hops and light malt is very average. Taste is dominated by some light roasted malt with a dry slightly hoppy finish. Body is slightly light with some average carbonation. I don’t seem to really dig beers from this brewer – maybe I am missing something but I sure don’t see anything special. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jun 24, 2007 Pour was cola-like. One finger tall head and virtually no lacing. The aroma was roasted malt, some smoke and a bit of sour funk. The flavor was smoke, roasted malt and some licorice. Weird finish. Not succinct, yet no lingering sweetness. Just kind of hung around like that last party guest who doesn’t quite know when enough is enough. Very watery mouthfeel. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Jun 23, 2007 The pour is dark brown, with a fairly thin off-white head, and nice lacing. Much of the carbonation remains suspended, creating a curious shimmering effect. It has a very sweet aroma of dark fruits, prunes and cherries, and molasses. On the contrary, the flavor is decidedly dry and caught me completely off guard. Horehound is very noticeable at mid-palate and doesn’t taste good to me. It isn’t heavily hopped at all, although some are present on the palate. This is on the weak end of the porter range. davelouw (13), San Luis Obispo, California, USA Jun 20, 2007 Pours very dark brown with minimal head that goes away quickly. Malty and caramel nose with a touch of acrid. Taste starts malty/sweet/caramel, moves to slightly sour, and finishes roasty/sour. Overall not a great beer and I won’t be buying another six pack demitriustown (689), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA Jun 20, 2007 12 oz bottle: Caramel goodness, nice malt aroma, with some chocolate aroma mixed into it. With a definite creaminess in the aroma as well. Also reminiscent of a Scottish too. Now I know why they call it a Scottish Porter. Pours a almost opaque black with some light coming through with a thin tan head that lingers. Taste is interesting not quite a Porter....kind of off putting at first. I think this Porter is really unbalanced a bit too sweet. An ok porter but not my favorite of the style. Overall, Decent not the best.
