Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

Thin, weak porter. Brown color with little head. Not much roasted grain flavor.

Rated 12/23/06: Didn’t blow my socks off, yet it didn’t make me cringe. Fairly middle of the road here. Aroma is roasted and bitter with a hint of sweetness. There’s an odd tinge of yeastiness that is off setting. Dark pour, thin head, and very little lacing. Would mark it lower but this is the 2nd beer in a row that didn’t look great so perhaps it could be affected by the glass. Medium rich feel, pleasant finish. Flavor is standard dark malts with a nice nutty backdrop. Not much bitter coffee in this one instead there are flavors of dark cherries and some licorice. A little different and not too bad.

Big head to start, off-white. Dark brown body. Malty body with hints of chocolate and licorice and hops. Flavor is acidic and bitter with notes of roasted malts and ever so slight hint of caramel. There’s an astringency in the finish that is off-putting. Thin and generously carbonated. Watery texture.

THOUGHTS: Nice beer, but not the best porter. Mild coffee aroma that I wanted more of. Also nutty and rasted. Same thing with the flavor, but a little thinner. Palate was a little thin too, kind of like drinking watered-down coffee. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark redish brown, with an average, off-white head mostly diminished and left good head at first then seemed to stop. The aroma was moderate roasted, nutty and mild coffee malts. The Initial flavor was lightly sweet, while the finish was moderately sweet and bitter with an average duration. The Palate was light to medium and both dry and watery with fizzy carbonation and a metallic finish.

12oz bottle-pours a big foamy to rocky tan head and dark mahogany color. Aroma is a whiff of faint medium/dark malt, dark fruit. Taste is medium/dark malt-chocolate/caramel/slight coffee, peat, roasty, secondary hops-earthy/kind of musty. Solid. Interesting. OK carbonation.

Pours very dark with about one finger creamy head. Malty aroma and taste with hardly any hop flavor at all. Nice and malty.

A bit too carbonated. This beer is very flavorful with a great aroma, but perhaps the carbonation is opprobriating the beer’s potential. As a scottish porter, it is lighter, and very flavorful and pleasant.

Bottle. Sour milk, chocolate, coffee and malt aroma. Dark brown color with nice big tan head. Flavor of sour milk and dark chocolate malt. Light body. A very nice tasting beer but wish it had more flavor.
