Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

This is a nice tasting beer that really doesn’t taste like a porter. It lacks the maltyness I’d like and almost seems to have a bit of a hoppy flavor. It doesn’t leave you with anything in the mouth to remember it by. Still it was enjoyable.

Dark brown color. Smell of coffee, hints of chocolate, hops, brown sugar and malt. Taste of chocolate, hops, coffee, caramel and nuts. A little bit too watered down.

Thin for a porter. Not the full flavor I like to get from a beer that claims to be "rich, malty with hints of chocolate". Although it’s lacking what I desire in a porter, it’s a smooth finish and it’s easy to drink. It has an interesting bite and it’s a little bitter on the back end. It isn’t heavy so it’s no problem to drink a six pack in a few hours.

Frothy off white head that thins quickly. Redish brown in color. Bubbly carbonation on glass walls. The smell is of rasberry, malts, sugar cane and pine. Flavor was flat and not very interresting.

I bought a 6 pack at Vons. I was surprised to see a beer there that did not have a big ad campaign and a few bilboards. This beer looks dark brown in the glass. What little head there was disappered somewhat quickly. It smells slightly fruity. It doesn’t taste much like I would expect any porter to taste like. Awfully thin. I was let down by how thin it was, as I like my beer thick and malty. It goes down pretty smoothly. As far as porters go, this one is lacking. It could use a more malty taste, and it could definitely use some thickening up. I will probably stay clear of this beer in the future.

From a 12 oz. bottle with a freshness date in the lower right corner of label. Poured a dark brown with a small foamy pale tan head that quickly settled into a thin bubbly lacing. Aromas of earthy toffee and cereal grains, and a sweet butterscotch. Moderate carbonation and a crisp, dryish, smooth light-medium bodied mouthfeel. Not bad, but for me, average tasting overall, earthy malts with traces of caramel toffee, buttery, a very light, faint smokiness, something that could be peat, but a bit artificial tasting, a little sweet licorice, and a dryish yeasty, malty finish. Pleasant enough, but this won’t be a regular with me.

Bottle - Dark brown with tan head. Roasted malt, nuts, sweet aroma. Flat flavor, sweet roasted malt, hint of bitter aftertaste. More like a black lager than a porter. Not as thick on the palate. I’d drink this with desserts rather than an entree.
