Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

A nice all around beer. Very dark, well, like a porter should look. Typical coffee and chocolate you would expect in a porter. In short this is pretty much what a porter should be. Maybe a little on the thin side in both aroma and body, but it is well worth trying.

12oz bottle. Pours a nutty brownish color with almost no head. Nose is light chocolate with some dark roast hints and a light, almost nuttyness. Palate is fairly thin and smooth/clean. Flavors are light coffee with some nutty and chocolate notes.

Bottle thanks to Swalden28. Dark brown in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is of toffee and roasted malts. Taste is the same.

Tap at Andy’s. Mahogany, clear, tan head. Rich malty cllean aroma with slight notes of carmel and chocolate. Flavor is rich and malty as well, with those same chocolate and carmel notes. One of the better FD brews.

Looks dark brown but up to the light turns a dark ruby/maroon color with a clearish body, no real head was produced or stayed, a bit of cola like fizz emerged quickly after the bottle was empty, some globs of lace stick but not for long. Aroma is clean and chocolatey with a bit of roastyness and some slight caramel notes. Taste is quite light, nothing substantially lasting or has any strength or character. Pretty much bland, it has a small twinge of roasty subdued malts with some favorable chocolatey dryness coming through in the finish which then has a drying effect which helps it out some, but boy its pretty boring til then. Feel is thin and hardly has anything going for it, quite weak in that department, I need some girth, some boldness, anything. Goes down easy, but is not withstanding much of a scottish or porter character in my book.

Something about this beer rubbed me the wrong way. The licorice and spearmint vegetal note just throws this off.

Pours dark coffee brown wih a shallow froth. Smells hoppy w/ slight malt. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. Flavors are suprisingly crisp and clean with roastd coffee bean, biscuits, pine, old leather, and a slight malt backbone. . Well ballanced. Overall: a very light specimen that could be enjoyed in the summer heat so if you like porters but not in the heat then try this one.
