GMUcrew7 (171), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 2, 2008 Very hard to rate beer. If rated as a porter it is below average. Probably would have a higher rating if it was labeled under a different style, but compared to a quality porter it is lacking. Pours a dark amber color, light for a "porter". Aroma is somewhat malty, with a hint of chocolate. Flavor is better, kind of a toasty, chocolate malt. Really not a bad beer (not great either), just a poor representation of a porter. Very light body, definitely leaves you wanting more.
McGarnigle (161), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle with no reference to Scottish. Dark brown/ruby, translucent, nice head. Medium bodied and very smooth. Chocolate malts come through. Slightly sweet and not too roasty. Possibly not daring enough, but still worthwhile. leaparsons (3878), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Aug 15, 2008 Bottle. Near black with a small beige head. Aromas are mellow berries with chocolate and weetabix malts. Floral with mollasses. Herbal and smoky. Flavours are chocolate malts with dark chocolate bitterness. Earthy roast malts with peppery hops. Thinner than I expected but still decent. jmw141 (79), Canton, Illinois, USA Aug 13, 2008 12oz. Bottle pour. More Flying Dog artsy stuff on the label. "Good Beer No Shit" emblazoned proudly on front. Pours dark, but clear red/brown. Brown head is thin and not lingering. Malt aroma. Malty flavor, coffee, roasty. Slight lingering mouthfeel. ante (2473), Stockholm (Bromma), Sweden Aug 13, 2008 Bottled. Pours out in a clear reddish brown colour with a fluffy off-white foam. Clean yet malty aroma of old coffee, caramel, mild licorice with weak citriusy undertones. Medium-bodied with notes o froasted malts, caramel and nuts. Clean and sterile mouthfeel. Clean and rather short finish of crystal malts, roasted malts and caramel. Lacking soul. lassem (106), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 7, 2008 Pours a waterish brownish/ light-black with a fading white head. A fresh lacorice dominates the aroma with notes of roasted malts and grains, and dark chocolate. The palate is fresh and a bit tickeling /sparkeling and a little too thin. The taste is fresh with notes of english lacorice, smoke, brown sugars, maltts, and coffée - but not that complex.
