More cunning than a snake in the bush...Snake Dog India Pale Ale is a Colorado-style IPA, power hopped with specialty hops from the Pacific Northwest. This is the brewery’s hop monster, and the citrus fruit aroma will hypnotize the senses of the most hardcore of craft drinkers. 15 Plato, 60 IBU, Crystal Malt, Warrior and Columbus hops, and dry hopped with Columbus.

12oz bottle poured into my Narke tulip...A dark but clear copper, lots of light tope head, good retention and lacing...At first the aroma is really nice and sweet but then the alcohol comes through, too strong so it starts to turn me off...The taste takes the aroma to a new level, all piney alcohol and incredibly strong, I almost gagged my first sip. This is beyond a beer for hop heads, this just needs to go away. Its as if they almost poured grain alcohol in the beer, how is this 7.1%. Yuck!

355ml bottle. Pours a lovely amber colour with a hint of gold. There is quite a lot of carbonation and a nice head. The nose has pine and grapefruit pith. The taste is initially of grapefruit and as it finishes, there is more grapefruit pith. Somewhere in the middle there is ginger cake. The palate has decent structure and it is creamy, but for me the finish is far too astringent. Good beer but I only want one (or two at most). OK make it three.

Bottle. Pours amber. Aroma is full citrous, mainly grapefruit. Taste is great pow of grapefruit hops but which is very nicely in balance with a bit of caramel malt. Smooth drinking. This is one of my favourite American IPAs. Perfectly in balance.

Snake Dog pours a nice amber with a frothy head. There is a sweet citrusy aroma. It’s like fresh grapefruits. The hops bite back in this one, it’s downright bitter. But it goes down nicely and finishes clean leaving you thirsting for more! I absolutely love this IPA.

Solid outing for Flying Dog. Aroma strong hops with hints of grapefruit. Pours a hazy golden with a pillowy, foamy head. Real smooth on the palate, but still has the bite of a traditional IPA. I think it has just the right amount of hops without being overpowering; however, traditional IPA lovers may find it a bit bland. Overall, I find this one to be an easy drinking brew and would definitely purchase it again.

Pours dark golden with a small head. Lots of hoppiness in the nose. Bits of hop flavor on the tongue. Lingers nicely.

On bottle at BrewPub. Pours light copper with lightly tanned, light head. Grassy, hoppy aroma. Slightly oily texture, full-bodied, bitter, acidic taste with an astringent finish. A decent beer but other IPA’s have left me more enthusiastic.

Ick. There is a snake in there ready to bite you with a bitter bite of stale liquid. Didn’t like it.

355 ml bottle from bierzwerg.de. Clear, light amber apperance with medium, off-white head. Aroma is grapefruit, hops, pine and some caramel/toffeeish notes of malt. Taste is dry with medium bitterness and cereal, malty notes. Some alcohol as well. Medium bodied with dry, bitter ending and good carbonation. Pretty average American IPA, nothing more, nothing less.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2012 Lots of hop character on the nose, citrus, small amount of apricot, and a small amount of malty sweetness. Taste is very floral, and fresh, much like the smell. Malt is slightly sweet, caramel and flaccid. Nice amount of spicyness that you don’t really get in other IPA’s would be good with a cigar. Ending is dry hoppy, and a bit too bitter. All together, a nice daily drinker and a good representative of the style without being too pretentious.
